Hubby Almost Had a Heart Attack!

I had a doctor's appointment on Thursday afternoon and took advantage of doing a little shopping and running errands while in Baton Rouge. I had finished with my doctor's appointment and had just come out of the store when I got a message from my hubby. He said a very large box just arrived. "It has "Live Plants" on the side of it. What have you ordered now?? It looks like a big box of long stemmed roses." I assured him that I had not ordered any live plants lately which is true. He called me just a few minutes after I read his message and I told him to open the box. He said he might do that when he finishes with his project. I got home to see the box unopened and brought my things inside and went and got a pocket knife to open the box. To my surprise, it was a Little Gem Magnolia tree. And yes, I did order it but I had no idea it would actually come! This was a promotion by the National Arbor Day Foundation that partnered with various electrical companies to promote cleaner air and to reduce electrical costs by planting trees near your house to provide shading. The tree was at least four feet tall and was in great shape to be shipped. My plan was to get it planted today but I started with the big hibiscus and rose bush that I had neglected planting so they went first and then I tuckered out! It will go in the ground in the next day or so. © 2020 Karen Gros, All rights reserved

That title is very misleading. I'm glad your hubby is in good health. I also hope your plant can survive until you can plant it, and it's being cared for in the meantime.

The old timers know the story of hubby cutting down my flowers and plants. He cuts and I buy twice as many or more. He thought this was a box of lots of plants or someone sent me roses. LOL.

I hope it, and you other plants grow and give you years of enjoyment. I don't have a good green thumb.

I would love to do as well as my paternal grandfather did with camellias. He had so many of them and I remember going from bush to bush as a child admiring the blooms. I know he is happy I have taken such an interest in plants and flowers.

@kareng My Nana could plant a stick and a tree would grow. She has an incredible green thumb.

That 'What have you ordered now??' is very accurate to describe my mom whenever I buy something online as well. She knows I sometimes would buy something weird online. Well, not really weird. But I might use them and it's easier to get them online.

Hopefully we will have another pretty day today and I'll get it in the ground. I'm up early for a change and need to head out and feed the chickens, get some breakfast on for the man (if he gets out of bed), and then run to the post office to get Ebay packages mailed.

I am doing my homework tonight and learning more about this species. It's different from a regular magnolia and a dwarf size but can get up to 35 ft. tall. Normal size is around 20-25 ft. tall. I'll get it planted this week.

We have an on-going battle about plants and flowers. I plant, he mows them down so I started buying double or more to replace what he mows down. It has become a big joke with us!
