We've all our own ideologies 'bout what gets deemed 's a "chore". Seems I aint wired correctly, so've my own thoughts'n such. I've lands 'n critters to tend. I consider such a blessin', ne'er 's crossed my mind such to be a chore. Many 've not the means fer e'en a small patch 'f land to call their own. The day I see tendin' the needs 'f my lil herd 's a chore'll be the day they'll need new homes. I see these thingies (mowin', weedin', haulin' hay/grain, trimmin' hooves, breakin' ice'n winter, groomin', mendin' fences, etc.) 's a gift. Feel the same 'bout cookin' ~ blessed to've food to do such. Cleanin' house ~ blessed not to be out'n the streets. Doin' laundry ~ blessed to've more'n one set 'f clothes, humbled to've a comfy bed'n which to lay my head. I could go'n, but shall refrain. Chore: an unpleasant but necessary task The only thingy that comes to mind I've e'er thought 'f such 'twas Calculus...confessin' to findin' a friend who 'twas a whiz 't such to tutor my sweet daughter. Do ya think 'f the thingies ya do'n yer daily lives 's chores 'r gifts?

I guess some I see some as chores but I would never, ever complain about having to do them. Like you, I am always aware of how lucky I am and always grateful for the life I lead, which is so easy compared to some. Thanks for the reminder.

i confess i aint crazy 'bout shampooin' carpets...prolly coz my house's packed with furniture (hubs...), large pieces which've gotta be moved, rooms tended half 't a time. thus a 2 day procedure coz ya can't put wooden schtuff'n damp carpet, lol. yer welcome :) 'tis not how much one 's'n their possession, 'tis the 'ppreciation 'f such.

@crazyhorseladycx Because it never really gets that cold here (maybe one to seven frosty mornings) we opted for no carpets. Our floors are vinyl slats that look like wood. Much easier to clean. You can see the floor here.

I completely agree with you. I look around at the unhappy people in the world, negative words, etc. Then I see the birds that enjoy the peanuts and the water in my backyard. All gifts. We should all look for the positive in the world. And leave the calculus to the others!

one'd think if'n they'd be so 'nhappy they'd put their 'fforts to make changes, eh? yer like myself, we get great joy out'ta the simple thingies'n life. feel blessed fer what we've got 'n try not to fret too much o'er what could'a been. ugh, that calculus! the hubs'n i both'd taken such but they added 2 more steps. 'f which we'd nary a clue. thankfully a friend 'f his 'twas a master 'f such. we'd lots 'f tears (the daughter) 'n we felt most 'nadequate. that fella 'twas our savin' grace, lol.

I love your way of thinking and I wish I had more of that within me. I guess you can say I'm kinda in between . Honestly I have never worked so much on chores around here as I have this year - simply because well, we are at home most of the time - more than ever before. But I have learned to take super pride in doing it . . . and it keeps my mind busy while accomplishing these goals. Being able to have a roof over our heads and be healthy to even be doing these chores for ourselves and the ones we love are definitely gifts we should not be taking for granted. Calculus can go take a hike .

thanks, hon. drives the hubs a bit nuts 's he sees all this matters 's 'work', so does purty much nothin'. such 'tis 'neath him somehow, to tend schtuff that needs tendin'. whilst i wish circumstances'd been diff'rent, i'm glad that'cha 've the 'pportunity to tend those thingies 't yer place. gettin' the young'uns 'nvolved a bonus 'n hopefully 'nstill such'n 'em 's well. we could get the answers to said calculus, jest 'twas missin' 2 steps. kinda reminds me 'f that 'common core' crap they've now fer simple math. so grateful fer that fella 'n his knowledge 'f those 'missin' links'.

Calculus is no chore, calculus is fun! The joy of seeing something long and complicated just add up and become simple *smiles happily* I think washing floors is a chore. That's why I have a vacuum cleaner. My father thinks washing the car is a chore I suppose. Must have a conversation with him about that. We share two cars, one looks like it has rolled in the mud. It's worse than my horses.

@Torunn 'n where were ya when i needed ya direly? jest kiddin', 'twas near 23 yrs 'go when we'd to 'ndure such. we'd the answers, jest not all the danged steps. the daughter 'twas very serious with'er studies 'n fell 'nto a puddle 'f tears. so thankful fer the hubs friend who lent a hand. i'm weird i reckon, i see all these matters's blessin's. e'en muddy ponies 'n trucks :)

@crazyhorseladycx 23 years ago I was probably studying for some exam right now, could have been calculus, could have been German grammar ;-) The truck is just annoying, 'cause it's so dirty the polish gets ruined. I wash it when I drive it, but my father has never been one for washing cars. Or anything else come to think of it. The ponies are so pleased with themselves it's doesn't matter much what everyone else thinks, the dirtier they are, the more grooming they get. I'm not sure if it's planned that way from their side, but that's what happens.

@crazyhorseladycx I'm guessing that I also met my first online friends about then. 1997-1998. Tolkien website, still meet them once a year when there's no pandemic. Mine wear blankets outside, also the one which isn't clipped, 'cause I can get him clean enough to use a saddle if he can roll everything. Dirt under the saddle isn't good. But he really likes to sleep outside, so when he comes in, he is half yellow-white, half grey.

Whatever brings pleasure is never a chore. I know you get a lot of pleasure in taking care of your critters and the horses. You have a great perspective on everyday tasks about what gives pleasure and the one thing that doesn't. I confess anything that reaks of housework are chores to me. It isn't enjoyable, even though I like the fact I'm not out on the streets and have a comfortable bed to sleep in. What I do find enjoyable is cooking and baking. Working on my books and here on myLot is also enjoyable and not a chore.

yepperz, i aint wired proper i reckon. i get more joy out'ta some thingies than others, this i must confess. tendin' the house 'tis been a massive hurdle with the hubs home'n 'nderfoot this past year. i fear such's quite the disaster, gettin' done what i can when he goes wanderin' off to town.

Completely agree. I remember my son's school teacher scolding me once (can you believe that) because my son said he didn't have chores to do. I nearly laughed my head off (which didn't set well with said teacher). I told her I hadn't even heard the word in years and never used it at home where we just 'get it done'. Your post so reminded me of that conversation. Thanks for an incongruous memory.

yer welcome :) what a sweet story to recall. i learnt with my young'uns that callin' anythin' a 'chore' 'twas somethin' seen 's awful. kinda like me namin' the compost pile. nobody wished to take scraps out to such, but they'd argue o'er gettin' to feed gomer, lol. each swearin' 'twas their turn.

@Namelesss perhaps ya can play'n his empathy 'n tell that fella that poor ol' compost pile 'll die 'f starvation if'n he don't get out there'n feed 't?

@crazyhorseladycx LOL, that is so funny. My son who is grown has a compost pile but he's reluctant to take out the scraps. Wonder if feeding Gomer might appeal to an adult youngster, hmmm.

There are chores such as cleaning the fridge that I would rather not do. I often told my clients that I would rather lick the floor clean with my tongue than clean out the fridge.

Dishes are a true chore. I hate them. This time of year I do sometimes threaten to sell all the critters outside as I hate cold weather. But then I remind myself of how much I would miss them.

i see dishes's a means 'f fixin' food 'n nourishin' the body. 'ctually find dishwashin' quite relaxin'. told ya i 'twas weird. when i get critters, e'en those rescued, such's fer life. i'd do purty much anythin' fer 'em, to 'nsure their safety'n well bein'. i feel 'tis'n honor to tend 'em despite weather. 've e'en moved 'nto the barn durin' harsh winters if'n one 'twas ailin'.

I try to be thankful but I don't always think of those things as gifts. I do try when my body is going through something to remember that there are those that are worst off than me so I can learn to do the same thing with my 'chores' right? It's merely a choice of words. We can word them as chores or gifts. I'm going to try to change my perspective as I like the way you think.

'tis jest one'f those habits we humans possess. lookin' 't such's gifts, to me 't least, 'nstead 'f chores makes me feel good 'bout tendin' 'em. versus procrastinatin' 'n cursin'.

I think for me it's a mixture. There are things in every day life that one must do, like responsibilities. For example, if you own a house you must maintain it. I can't say I enjoy fixing things in my house or raking leaves or mowing the grass, but that is the trade off for ownership. But thankfully not everything in life is a chore. I've been lucky enough to learn golf from my Dad and to have many, many years of enjoyment playing with him. A blessing for sure! But as you say, it's all in how you perceive things. Kind of a half glass full vs half glass empty outlook...

i'm so glad y'ave that bond with yer dad :) i see those responsibilities 's a privilege, feelin' most blessed to've such'n my life. but, we've all our own thoughts'n 'schtuff', don't reckon there'd be a right 'r wrong. 's long's one's happy with the choices made.

I think when we consciously count our blessings from God, it helps us see life from a different perspective. Like when my husband was complaining about there being so much food in the fridge that he couldn't find what he was looking for and I said, "Well, praise God!" It changed his outlook quickly.
