How could I resist?

When we asked the girls if they had any suggestions for gifts they would like, they both mostly had several books that they were hoping for. But Little One - who isn’t all that little any more - also said she would like more cuddly toys. She already has quite a collection of toy animals taking up space in her bed, and my partner just gets endlessly irritated by the clutter, especially when she brings a collection into our bed in the mornings! But nevertheless he was too soft-hearted just to ignore this request completely, so he thought perhaps Father Christmas could bring something small, and he asked if I could keep an eye out for some suitable toy. I was away last week, so without the girls around it was the perfect opportunity to look for stocking fillers. In every shop I went into I looked for something suitable, but none of the toys really caught my eye, or else they were too big. I was almost tempted by a little wolf, but he was a bit too sad-looking. Finally, rummaging in a box of odds and ends (which I had almost ignored) in a charity shop, I found this. The perfect size (just right to fit in the hand), and Little One loves rainbow-coloured everything. Who could resist a multi-coloured duck-billed platypus, especially for only 50 pence? I’m sure she will love it. It’s already carefully washed and dried and hidden away, ready for the big day! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2020.

It is very cute indeed, and since the little one asked for it, she would be delighted to get it in her stocking. So you all ask the kid upfront what they want? I thought it is kinda secret and they still wait for dressed up Santa.

The things in their stockings are surprises from Father Christmas. Other than that, we do ask if they have suggestions for things they would like. Grandparents and other relatives are often asking for ideas!

That is adorable and a great find! How old are the girls now? My granddaughter, who is 12, is into pigs. Bed linens, stuffed animals, and real ones!

@DianneN Everyone says that don't they? But it always seems like it. Sadly we are all aging at just such a fast rate!

It is cute, though perhaps not terribly realistic! But I think she will like it, and it isn't too big (I know if she had the choice she would get something as big as herself!)

@JudyEv It's the tail that's not right, isn't it? Still, it's the only cuddly platypus I've seen!

@Fleura I knew immediately what it was meant to represent so it must be a little bit realistic.

Hard to resist a cute little stocking stuffer. And who doesn't like a present in their stocking? Unless it's a lump of coal

Thank you, I hope so too. She's actually not that little any more, I just call my two girls 'Little One' and 'Big One' on here.
