It happened to me this time

I have heard of things like this happening to others but it happened to me this time.
We went to church and then hubby wanted some rutabagas for a dish he makes. I had a very short list of things I felt we needed, so we went to Wal Mart.
As usual, they had very few checkouts open, but lots of self check outs, which I will not use. They did not have the things I wanted, at least not all of them. I got in a line.
A woman and her son checked out. She had trouble with her card or something so that took a while.
Behind that woman was a man, his wife, and two teen or pre teen daughters. They bought groceries, plus one of the girls wanted an "ugly Christmas sweater". They gave hugs a lot to each other and their mom, and the youngest looking daughter said she wanted to ride home with dad, so evidently they had separate cars.
When the conveyor belt advanced enough, I put my items on it. The cashier finished ringing up the order for the family, and then it happened. . .
The man pointed to my things (about five items) and said, "ring these up with mine, too". Then he looked at me as I said "no" and he said "Merry Christmas". Of course I said "thank you" and wished him the same.
Let me say, that made my day. It seemed to do the same for the cashier as well. I estimate it was maybe $15. It was priceless, because it came from the heart.
Pay it forward whenever you can. This is one good thing that is happening in a difficult and distressing year.

@GardenGerty I agree! Hubs has been doing it way before it became popular.

It feels good if you can do it, and it would have given you a lot of joy as well.

I know you usually hear about it happening in restaurants and drive through services.

It was. They really seemed like a nice family, even before he did that.

Yes, it is nice. I try to be extra kind this year myself. We need a little joy. A man was trying to load a 50 lb bag of dog food under his cart and accidentally crashed into mine. I laughed and told him I would hold his cart steady so he could load it.

Well, wasn't that nice! I wonder if he still would have done that if you had a large order.
