In above my head?

I'm still working on a pair of speakers I received for restoration about three weeks ago. I finally turned the second one over after working on the other three surfaces, and this is what I found! Am I finally in over my head? Sherlock Horse thinks the speakers were stacked in someone's moist basement or garage for a couple of decades or more. The surface you see was on the bottom. They're from around 1971, I'd guess. Think I'll be able to handle this surface? I've started with my typical sanding and hot water treatments. I've alread replaced some of the missing veneer. How is the weather were you are? The (welcome) rain has finally stopped, and it is sunny and cool out today.

Heh. I'm a legend in my own mind. I'm glad we're getting a break from the rain.

All we got was sprinkles and do those speakers still work with the water damage?.

Yes, the damage is actually quite superficial, though it looks nasty.

@crossbones27 I have never made a speaker box from scratch. There are so many (potentially) beautiful old speaker boxes out there, it's more time- and cost-effective to restore old boxes and put new "drivers" in as necessary.

They are badly scratched, someone pushed or pulled them on a rough surface. Grey and cloudy here, no snow or rain.

Yep. Sometimes I can tell screws or nails got under the speakers.

I'm sure you'll get it whipped into shape pretty quickly. It's 26 degrees outside right now. (It snowed today. We had about an inch accumulation.) The high today was 35. (There was still snow on vehicles and on grass and trees when I got off work, but it didn't stick to pavement.) The weather service says our low tonight will be around 20 degrees. You should stop by for a little while.

@TheHorse If you come to visit, I'd be happy to have hot soup and homemade rolls ready when you get here.

@TheHorse It sounds like the person was not honest with you. They probably knew you could handle it. I am looking outside from the window and it looks windy and not sunny at all.

I like flurries. But I think my favorite is those big wet flakes that cover everything.

It’s all winter-like. In fact, I stopped by the store and got more hot chocolate mix today. And I have every faith in you that you can restore the bottom of that speaker. That amplifier in the background, however......
