A reindeer made of chains

We stopped for fuel recently at a service station on our way to our old home town, Ravensthorpe in Western Australia. Next door was a craft centre which wasn’t open but I loved the Christmas decorations they had erected in the front yard. The best thing was this reindeer made of old chains. I’ve seen some lovely ornaments made of chain. There is always some way of using up scrap materials.

It's quite clever, isn't it? I've seen sheep made with chains too.

You're right about it not being particularly pretty but at least it got rid of their spare bits of chain. lol

Whichever it is, it wouldn't be doing too much dashing and dancing with that weight on it.

Interesting! Someone did a good job making that female reindeer... I wonder if she is pregnant?

@JudyEv Oh, sorry... I know it's female because male reindeer lose their antlers in November and regrow them in the spring. Female reindeer lose their antlers after they calve in May and regrow them straight away. Edit to add: That also means that all the reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh are female, including Rudolph!

Okay - so I have to ask. How do you know it's female? I think the red and green bits are supposed to be antlers.

@DaddyEvil Oh wow! How about that? Did you read my little fiction story from last Christmas? It's only 100 words but you might enjoy it. Here's the link:
For the last meeting of myLotter John Welford’s (@indexer) writing group, the challenge was to write a story with a Christmas theme. The story had to be exactly...

I've seen chain used before to make sculptures. You have to have the idea first, don't you? That's where I come unstuck.

That is good. People can use their artistic skill using the recyclable materials. In that way, it's helpful to the environment as we are saving some of our trashes.

It is. I don't seem to have enough imagination for that. I can copy someone else's idea but that's about it.

That's clever. I have considered learning how to weld so I could make some sort of scrap metal sculptures. But I fear I'm not really artistic/imaginative enough.

It's one thing to have the material and the technical know-how but you still have to come up with the ideas. That's were I fall down too.
