My husband got a surprise, but not in a good way.

I know, two discussions in one day. Shocker. But, I felt I needed to write this down.
Yesterday, my husband told me, the area coach for his job at pizza hut, Rachel, and her boss, Linda, were gathering the store for an emergency meeting. On Friday, they decided to close the Ormand store. (Effective as of midnight tonight). They told everyone this morning.
No one is going to lose their jobs, but they are being relocated. The idea is to beaf up employees in other locations to expand the delivery area (in an effort to continue to serve custmores.) He was told, that everyone would work their scheduled shifts at their newly-assigned stores, for the next week. And, act like flies on the wall so-to-speak.

I hate relocations. But still a good thing no one loses their jobs. But yeah added travel time.

So do I. At least he knows the store's RGM (restaurant general manager) and has worked under her before.

An extra five minutes from the old location.

About five minutes from the previous location, traffic pending. (He has to cross a bridge)

No, only about five minutes. After this week, his hours are up in the air, and that's the scary part.

I plan on it. Today, he told me the store they sent him to, has no room for him. He's over qualified, and there's just no job spots. Today, he felt like a lost puppy looking for something to do. He was so bored, he was doing the driver's work. Since word hasn't gotten out, the volume of deliveries hasn't increased. Unless they advertize (which is doubtful), I don't think it will. The only deliveries out of the known area, are going to be from people who dial a wrong number. And, that didn't happen very often when I worked for Pizza hut. So Rachel and Linda's "plan" is not going to make them more money.
Apparently, the reason they closed the ormand store so suddenly, is because they didn't want to sign another ten-year lease and the store wasn't making enough money. @DianneN

I completely agree. When my husband told me, I was just as shocked as everyone. Sad part, is while I understand why they did it, they really should've done a better job of it.

Anything is better than 'you're fired'. The store he's being relocated to, isn't brand new, so that's a good thing.

@kaylachan I guess at the end of the day business is business. It comes down to the bottom line at the end of the day, and the best decisions are usually to preserve and protect the interests of the business. If the business does not do that more people ultimately suffer as a result than just a few.

He's thinking about re-applying to Publix, again. No guarantee he'd get the job. He'd be starting all over and this would be his third time working for them. But, he has yet to decide. All I know right now, there's a "plan", one my hubby isn't aware of. Both of us are worried. However, I have faith we'll weather this storm.

@kaylachan do you mean like they will do 'dirty' plan to avoid paying their obligation?

Personally, I am used to being assigned anywhere. That's part of my job. Though it is somehow difficult and challenging, I am still grateful that I have a job. We can make adjustment on new places and people.

I know. George is taking it in stride, but he, like everyone in that store, were very surprised.

The best part is that the job is still there. The fear of losing the job is the worst
