Father Christmas and Covid-19

A few days before Christmas, we all wrapped up warm and went for a stroll around the village to admire the Christmas lights. The various lights and Christmas displays seemed to be more prevalent than ever this year. There were icicle lights, twinkling stars, light strings around windows and draped over trees and looping from fences and lamp-posts. There were shining trees, rainbow arches, sparkly reindeer and polar bears and penguins, inflatable glowing snowmen and Santas. There were gnomes and elves, multi-coloured Christmas trees, sleighs, stars, and a few other things that we couldn’t always quite work out (still trying to decide what could have been the decoration that looked like an illuminated headless Babygro). We had fun trying to be the first to spot a particular object and shout it out. The one that made me laugh most though was the one in the picture. As we approached, my partner asked ‘Why is Father Christmas bringing toilet paper?’ Then we realised that it was meant to be his list of who was ‘naughty or nice’! Obviously the whole Covid situation and the headlines about panic buying have warped our way of thinking! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2021.

As soon as I saw the photo, I knew exactly what it referred to. Btw, I now have enough toilet paper to last until 2022.

We didn't go mad on the toilet-paper-buying front so we are actually going to need to buy some more on the next shopping trip!

@DianneN Yes I always like to have the store-cupboards full too. I get quite annoyed if I go to cook something, for example, and find that some basic ingredient has run out and no-one has said anything!

@Fleura We were lucky to have brought some up north from Florida. It was scary back then in May. Then it was my favorite brand of paper towels and Lysol. My pantry is well stocked now and just the way I like it to be.

It's fun to see all the Christmas decorations. I wondered what Santa had. Nice picture.

When we looked closer we realised it had pretend writing on it.

lol apparently it's not toilet paper but it's a list being read to determine who's naughty and not, have a nice day

Yes it was a fun evening! A bidet would certainly avoid the need to panic-buy t.p! Or how about one of those sort of shower-head attachments you can get that you can retro-fit to a regular toilet?

@Fleura dunno if'n i've heard 'f those shower head gizmos?? but, ya can get a bidet that'll fit yer current loo, e'en one that'cha can hook 'p to yer hot water't the sink. which's good, who'd want ice cold water'n their bum?

@crazyhorseladycx Something like this perhaps: ouche-shower-spray-kit-with-wall-bracket-hose-chrome (you have to remove the space in that link to make it work. MyLot wouldn't let me include the link with the word d o u c h e intact!) Yes you certainly wouldn't want a jet of ice-cold water up the jacksy!

It was good fun. Now we have to think of more reasons to go out over the next few weeks of gloomy winter!
