Happy New Year To Everyone AND... Do You Have This Tradition In Your Family??

When I was growing up, every year on the 1st of January, we had another special dinner. It was pretty much a second Christmas Dinner, now that I think about it. I don't know who's idea it was, but it became a tradition all through my growing up years. We aren't carrying this tradition forward btw!!! I never thought to ask who's idea it was, and I really wish that I had. I can't imagine mom wanting to go through all of that work one week after Christmas which leaves Dad. Hmmm... I wonder if his Mom did the same thing. We never really got to know her very well because of the travel distance between us, but someone had to be behind it. What about you?? Do you have a "second Christmas Dinner" scheduled for today or maybe a different tradition that you follow on the 1st day of the New Year? :)

We just have nice food that we feel like eating that day, nothing "ritual".

Since I don't remember such a thing I'm guessing it didn't happen. There are times though that I feel that we should be having a family dinner on New Year's Day. But I sure as heck ain't up to making it. Christmas Eve dinner was enough work for me.

My sister has her birthday today. We have a tradition to be having her party at home or have a picnic at the beach. I can celebrate with them when I am in the Philippines.

Since New Years day was a holiday for everyone at home I would always cook up a special meal for everyone. No tradition as such but just a good time at the table with everyone. Now that I live alone I don't take the trouble of making anything special.

We just had the New Year's Eve dinner and that is it. The rest of the days are spent eating leftovers .

We have a traditional special lunch for the 1st day of the year, to bring good luck and money through the year. No second Christmas dinner.

For the past several years my cousin has been hosting a New Year's Day dinner for the family but she isn't doing it this year. Not sure why.

We always have pork and sauerkraut. The pork is supposed to be good luck. Happy New Year!
