Trump's Fall from Grace -- Political Rant ---

I've made no qualms about my dislike and distrust of Mr. Trump in the past. So if you still have a love for the man, you might wish to close this post now. It is time to remove Mr. Trump from the office of President. Granted he only has 13 days left in his term, but yesterday proves beyond doubt, that he does not deserve the right to wield the power and microphone of the office for one moment longer. Yesterday, his actions violated the most basic tenant of the Office of President: to uphold the United States Constitution. Nothing in the law or the history of this country justifies inciting a riot and encouraging rioters to attack the Capital Building or interfere with Congress. The people who broke the police lines, who broke into the capital building, who destroyed property inside those offices, are criminals at best. Though I tend to agree with the news sources that are calling them insurrectionists. These people need to stand trial for sedition, and maybe that should be upgraded to treason. The fact that Mr. Trump pushed them forward, and yes, praised them while they were in the act, renders him unfit for the office to which he was entrusted. It is time for our Congress to act decisively and with finality. It is time to invoke the 25th amendment or impeach him and remove Mr. Trump from office. Enough is enough.

No one in their clear state of mind support this sort of shameful event. It's an awful and shameful event... Any democracy will not welcome it.

@cperry2 It's sad but true that this is not the problem only with America but it is a worldwide issue. Social media and other platforms are too quick to spread a conspiracy theory and fake news. They influence people and people fall for their polarisation agenda. I just wish people could use their common sense and fine sense of judgement before falling for such agendas and bringing shame to their nation.

@arunima25 All it would take is a few minutes of research to see the falsity of the conspiracy theories. The problem is, too many are not willing to do the work. Unfortunately, they do not think for themselves, but willingly give their lives over to a few dishonest people who would use them for unsavory purposes. Such as storming the US Capitol.

I agree fully. However, for too long in this country our freedom of the press has allowed some groups whose intents are not exactly pro democracy. to push conspiracy theories and out and out fabrications to lead people in a different disastrous direction. Yesterday is the culmination of that. Many people have fallen for the lies and misinformation and are taking action based on it. I don't know whether to feel sorry for those who blindly throw their trust in such or to mourn the fact this country has slid this far into darkness that allowed yesterday to occur.

I agree with you 110%! He has to go, and as soon as possible. Perhaps the best bet would be for people he trusts to persuade him to stand down - I think we could endure 12 days of Mike Pence as President!

@cperry2 It will be hard to argue that Trump was not the worst President ever to disgrace the office.

You know. I would be willing to bet, that there was a backroom deal to avoid removing him. Sometime after 3 AM, he announced through someone else (Trump's Twitter account was blocked yesterday) the Transition on January 20 would be peaceful. : Last night/early this morning there was talk in Congress of invoking the 25th amendment and/or impeaching him for his actions yesterday. I do not doubt they could find the votes to make it happen this time. However, there is enough of a stain because of Trump the politicians did not want to make it worse by publicly disgracing him with removal. I disagree with this contention, he has more than earned public humiliation.

It remains to be seen if the powers-that-be will be strong enough to make that decision and act on it.

From what I am reading, Mike Pence, Vice President of US is not willing to invoke the 25th amendment' The way the laws are written, he would be required. The other option is impeachment, I don't know if there is enough time left for anything to be done on that front, but Pelosi, the House Majority Leader, and Chuck Schumer, the Senate Minority Leader (both Democrats) are saying they are drawing up the papers to proceed with this. You are right, we will have to wait and see. I think the next election cycle is going to show us the real score, but alas, all too often people have very short memories. From what I am reading, Trump is done politically, he will never hold office again. Yet he still has a huge following, including several here on myLot. So Trump will probably take on the role of King Maker in the next presidential election (2024) and may exert some influence in the next Senate and House elections (2020). .

@JudyEv Our system has lots of flaws. I doubt you would find more than a handful of Americans who would disagree with that statement. Yet, it has worked for us so far. This year was a pretty big test. Unfortunately, we do get people like Trump who are more than willing to exploit those flaws for their personal gain. But the same goes for other governments. Though I feel Trump is the worst of the worst in the US at least (so far). The next two years are certainly going to be interesting. There will be a lot of fallout because of the past four years, especially because of what happened with that mob. We might actually see some real changes in how we govern or elect people. The heads of security (at the capitol) and capital police have been relieved of their jobs. I believe more is to come. On that note, there is a big concern about where Biden is supposed to be sworn in, On the steps of the capitol building the police could not protect.

@JimBo452020 I believe he may have undermined the Republican party to the extent that it will divide in the near future. Though several party members chose to withdraw their support after the attack on the national Capital. So maybe they can reconcile. I doubt it though.

The 20th is thirteen days away. He can still do a lot of damage before he is gone. He should be removed now. Let Pence finish the term.

Trump did not incite a riot. He did not call for people to breach the capitol building. He did not call for violence. He did not encourage violence, and never has. The PEOPLE did this. Not the president, and there is no reason to take any action whatsoever against him.

@cperry2 Twitter and Facebook blocked him because they only accept and encourage liberal, leftist speech, and don't like facts, but rather prefer lies and narratives that fit their agenda. Seriously. You are calling out Twitter and Facebook as honorable voices?

Again we disagree. Funny, Twitter and Facebook have blocked him because he did exactly what you deny. Time to move on

@porwest As opposed to the thousands of falsehoods that Mr. Trump has uttered over the past four years. Absolutely.

I fully agree with everything you wrote. He must go and he must go immediately or he will still have enough time to pardon all the crooks like him and to make more damage to your country.

@cperry2 Pence should have invoked the 25th amendment, he surely fears to disgust all people fans, may be he has in mind to run for President in 2024... I do not believe that Trump will have a chance again.

@LadyDuck If Pence invoked the 25th amendment, I think it would actually help his chances, If he does not, he may keep the Trump voters under his wing, (Maybe not because they are upset he did not step up to stop Biden from being approved by Congress --- Of course, Pence did not have that power but the people in the mob believed he should have done something other than accept the Electoral College vote) Even so, he will be unlikely to get enough cross over from the Democrats or even independent voters to win the election. He will forever be tainted by his association with Trump. Besides, people see that he has been enabling Trump over the past four years by maintaining his silence. Sadly, that is what is expected of the vice president, support the boss, but in this case, I think it will work strongly against him. Right now, I would not give any Republican much of a chance to take the Presidency in 2024. Of course, we humans have notoriously short memories and lots of things can change over four years. 12 days left.

Many in Washington recognize this. I am not sure they will be able to move the government fast enough to do anything. Vice President Pence is indicating he will not invoke the 25th amendment and he would be required to follow that path. So we will just have to wait and see what happens next.
