I love birdhouses, but we no longer have them here, at least not right now. Our younger son now has two. One was built on his house when he bought it and is very elaborate and so pretty. This one was given to him by his girlfriend. She hand painted the roof. My mission is to find birdhouses that attract certain birds that live in my area and before springtime arrives here. Do you have birdhouses that attract specific birds?

That's a cute one. Bird houses are not very common in our country. Very few people have them. I would love to have one.

Thanks. They are great for watching baby birds and their parents feed them. Lots of action.

I don’t have any birdhouses. In fact, I don’t have any traditional feeders....just heavy-duty shelves that I spread the bird seed on so the birds and the squirrels can enjoy together. Plus, I can see them more easily that way.

That’s really sweet of you. We had to stop feeding our birds when we began going to Florida. Once they get used to being fed throughout the winter and it suddenly stops, they can die.

Yes, I have several different to attract different birds. I have seen a very pretty bird today, it was a long time I did not see one. It's a grey wagtail, those are cute birds.

@DianneN I go out early in the morning to pour hot water in their bowl to melt the ice. I love to see them coming to drink.

Our birds are different, but glad you have birdhouses. It’s a warm day today, so many winter birds are out and about. I saw three getting a drink in the birdbath. Poor little things.

How large are these bird houses. I remember seeing one in Nepal but they were huge with plants and trees inside.

@allknowing They aren't caged. The birds have a safe place to build their nest and are free to come and go. Not a cage at all.

We live in apartments and there is a big tree outside. It attracts birds. I also sometimes throw out bread crumbs for them. In the house we lived in before we moved to the apartments, the owner had a birdhouse. I enjoyed it.

I ‘m happy you get to see and feed birds. We are surrounded by woods and see them in their nests. Birdhouses are so cute though. lol

My parents have a birdhouse for bluebirds. I had a beautiful Mexican birdhouse at the front of the house but I don't think anything ever went in there.

I’d give anything to have the bluebirds return. We’ve only seen one here. Your Mexican birdhouse must have been beautiful, but what does Mexico know about New Jersey birds.[em]lol[/em

@DianneN I am not sure who has birdhouses in my area. People put bread out for the birds to eat. Do not know if they still put bread out now because of the corona virus.

If we don't get a birdhouse, we can still see the birds nesting in all the trees and shrubs. I throw them bread, too, but many love to get their own worms.

@Hannihar Most of the birds that are left are winter birds. They only make a showing if it's warm enough out. Yesterday I saw about 5 which is a lot for winter.

That's a cool mission. I hope you show us yours when you get it. My mom has a couple - it holds whatever sort of seed you want to fill it with - the main thing it is - is what it repels (squirrels). lol. The other is a hummingbird feeder

In Indonesia, people usually make bird houses to be used as pets, such as doves. There are also those who deliberately build a special house to become a swallow's nest, to take the nest and sell it at a high price.

The birds here don't make good pets. They are wild birds. They almost sound like cages to me.

@DianneN It can also be called a cage, but birds are still free to enter and exit at any time. Usually the pigeon cage is located high on the roof of the house or against the wall, so it is not easy to reach.

Thanks! They build their nests in birdhouses, lay their eggs, and when the birds hatch, the parents go back and forth feeding their babies until they all fly away. So cool to watch them.

I bet CarolDM might. I have seen birdhouses that are super elaborate. There is one that is in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County..that probably could house two dozen birds. I think a birdhouse to attract purple martins would be nice.

The birdhouses are just cute little houses where the birds can build there nests and have shelter. The rest use our trees and shrubs. It's our winter, so we only see a few varieties of winter birds and only when it's warmish out.
