My Dad's Squirrel Memories

Was reading earlier that today is called Squirrel Appreciation Day. Seems every day is for something. Why not squirrels. This photo was taken a few years ago in my Dad's yard. He used to get so frustrated at the squirrels eating the bird seed. He finally gave up and just starting feeding the squirrels. Life was easier then. Good memories. Photo is mine.

I love that photo. There aren't enough trees for squirrels to make a home here. But we do have plenty of other rodents, mice mostly.

I can't think of any parks near me @CarolDM Maybe there's one about 40 miles from me but I never go there.

We had a squirrel that kept building a nest under the hood of our SUV every time we went away to Mexico for the week. Babies, chewed wires, leaves. . . it was a mess. I hated her.

@CarolDM I was a Daddy's girl too, life really isn't the same after we lose our dear Daddy is it? My Dad loved birds also, and clouds, he was always watching the skies and noticing the different clouds.

i know that is a funny memory. I remember my grandfather doing the same He finally built a squirrel proof bird feeder. I will never forget the look on his face when I was laughing, pointing a squirrel carefully plucking birdseed from his squirrel proof feeder.

i'm glad he finally jest let 'em be. many dislike squirrels'n other critters antics. they're jest tryin' to survive'n why go hunt when a human's set out a buffet fer the takin'? i read 'twas such, too. spent a bit 'f time lookin' o'er the pics i snagged 'f my temporary resident squirrel. i do miss him, but he'll most likely not return with the herd 'f ferals. his stay most brief this last summer, barely a week.
