A must!

One thing I learned as a plant parent is making pruning a habit. Prices of plants in this country has increased exorbitantly due to high demand. The demand is too high that we even experience shortages in some varieties of plants that we have to import them from Thailand, Indonesia, Holland, and the Netherlands. And because they have become pricey, some people are hesitant to prune their plants. They're afraid it might kill their plants or their plants won't grow anymore. But not me! My personal experience made me learn that pruning plants make them even grow faster and even "bushier." So I'm not hesitant to chop chop chop! But I don't throw them away. I propagate them. So I have more plants. Just like this philodendron golden dragon lime fiddle photo. I cut the top part and the middle part of this vining plant so I can have not only one but three lime fiddle! One is propagating in water and one is propagating in soil!

Philodendron, to me are more difficult to propagate in soil. I've tried that before and have always lost those. Propagating them in water lets you see when the tiny roots start so you know when to pot the new plant. Yes, I have philodendron growing now.

Oh I have succeeded in propagating them directly in soil. I make my own special aroid potting mix. I have successfully propagated philodendron green emerald, burle Marx, and Malay gold in soil as they were given to me as cuttings. Then I also propagated my own plant philodendron brasil in soil too and it's doing well. I have philodendron black majesty, Jose Buono, painted lady, and dark lord stem cuttings (just nodes) that are currently under ICU. Not planted in soil. it's sitting on top of it and I'm waiting for them to produce shoots before actually planting them. But I do enjoy water propagation as I could see the roots. Most of my pothos are in water propagation.

@DaddyEvil What philodendron is it? And what is this flowering plant? I don't have any flowering plants but my anthurium doesn't stop producing flowers. Their flowers aren't attractive though. But their leaves are. I only have three anthiruims at the moment. Anthurium magnificum, crystallinum, and radicans.

Devil's Ivy. Photo is mine.
@toniganzon That is a Mandevilla vine. It is what I have rooting in a glass in my kitchen window. I don't know which philodendron it is. It was given to me when it was a single leaf and is now ten or so feet long. Let me try to attach the photo of it again. (This is an older photo when the vine wasn't as big as it is now.) My photo in the album says this is a Devil's Ivy. I have a few flowering plants but since it is winter here, none are flowering at this time.

I am glad you are enjoying growing plants. I only grow vegetables, next week I start to seed inside to have my little plants ready to move outside in late April.

I haven't grown any vegetables at all. I think I might not be good in growing them. So I stick with my ornamental plants as of now.

Yes, home propagation is very important. Especially these days that some sellers are actually poaching plants and earn from that. I usually check where the plants come from before buying.

When I'm obsessed with something, I make sure I know what I'm doing. So I read and read a lot and watch YouTube too many times before buying. a particular plant. That way, I know what soil to use, what type of pot to use, and how to water them.

It is only when one decides to deep prune there is the fear the plant may die. We lost our passion fruit vine because the gardener deep pruned it.

What even irks me the most is that my mom would just give them freely when some one asked. Good thing she gets some free as well. I started planting too but mostly on vegetables.

Nothing wrong with giving them for free. I have been giving some of my plants for free too. But strangers? I don't. And they know not to ask for free, they ask me if I sell.

Pruning is essential. I am pruning a basil plant that my son gave me. It’s doing well even though it’s winter here.

Oh yes. I have friends on IG that have winter season and surprisingly their plants seem to be growing when it should be dormant. Some plants give such a surprise when they are happy.
