It's happened. We're in lockdown as of 6.00pm

It’s happened. Three regions have been put into lockdown as of 6pm this evening. Perth, South-West and Peel regions are affected. We’re in the South-West region. A security officer has been found positive. He has been working on the same floor as a person who tested positive to a UK variant. The guy has been all over the place so there is immediate lockdown. Schools were due to start tomorrow but won’t; weddings are cancelled; no visitors permitted; only essential shopping. They’re not messing about with the severity of the lockdown but that’s okay. It was bound to happen sooner or later but if we all stick to the rules, hopefully within a fortnight or so, we will be free again. We are expecting our neighbours for a meal this evening. As long as they arrive before 6pm, we'll be within the guidelines. Photo is of a sunset at our place.

the phot is so beautiful. It is a good decision to have a lockdown early than later

We get some nice sunsets here, thanks. And yes, better to lockdown now while there is only a couple of positive cases.

I am sorry Judy, we were doing pretty well until they found 6 kids with the UK variant at our local school. Now there are 600 people quarantined and we are in lockdown. Beautiful sunset picture.

@JudyEv I am glad that we met no one and only went out grocery shopping early in the morning when almost no one was in the stores.

@LadyDuck The shops have been stripped bare in just the few hours since the news became public. It's panic buying all over again.

@just4him It's best she has company. There is no guarantee that the lockdown won't be extended in which case she would be on her own even longer.

In the end, they just came for a short while as they talked their daughter into coming home from the city. Otherwise, she would have been on her own for a week.

That's a very fast action. Normally we're given a day or two before lockdown to purchase essentials here. I think that's a good move on your part.

@Fleura Yes, I don't understand the reasoning behind that unless they think they can find all the contacts in that time.

Because we've seen it work, I think most people will comply even if they're not really happy about it. And, let's face it, who wants to be in lockdown?

@JudyEv We have a lot of selfish people here lately. They just made it federal low for the mask at Federal areas like airports and people are saying they won't. It's why this will get worse before better. Sad.

@JudyEv What does lockdown mean there though? If they had locked down here because of one case, even for 5 days, there would have been a riot.

Wow, that sounds kind of radical since only one person has been found positive. I hated the lockdown when we had it..and I am not sure how much it helped, but it may have helped the cases from speading too quickly. These days here it is all about the vaccine, and trying to give it as quickly as possible.

It worked for us last time because we didn't have a lot of cases to start with. I don't think we get a vaccine till the end of this month.

What a stunning picture. We are in another lockdown also, for another couple of weeks. Funny, I have lost track because in my mind we will remain as we are until we are vaccinated. I go out about twice a month now for the groceries and that is all. I hope that the lockdown you are in will prevent further spread, the variants are quick to spread.

@JudyEv It is very contagious, and we all need to stop and remain still to keep this virus at bay until we are all vaccinated. Too few people realize that.

@judyev just noticed this - Hope it doesn’t last too long. We now have a further 6 weeks before lockdown might be eased. Just maybe. The EU has just tried to take control of supply of the vaccine for NI and has had to retreat from that with its tail between its legs. For such a small place we cause a lot problems for everyone.

Thanks. I'm glad NI isn't letting the big boys walk all over them. And yes, the problems some places cause are in inverse proportion to their size.

Hopefully, five days just might see an end to it but the guy visited a lot of places in the few days he was infectious - bars, a gym, food outlets, malls - so goodness knows how many he has infected. And how many more his contacts might infect.
