Our gift is being put to good use

We called on my sister today before we picked up our two new sheep, Harry and Solomon. It was a really hot day but quite bearable in the house. You might remember I put up a discussion around Christmas time saying we’d bought her a giant cup and saucer as a gift. The idea was to plant something in the cup. Well, she has a lovely plant growing in the cup. It will be even prettier when more of the buds open up. I'm glad she found something to plant in it. The cup and saucer are sitting on an outside table.

@JudyEv Much prettier and more inventive than a standard plant pot.

Thanks. I was very pleased when we bought it as I thought it was pretty. It looks even nicer now with a plant in it.

@oahuwriter All sorts of things can be used as containers for plants.

It is. On Murder She Wrote, U saw a teapot used as a planter. Tried it and it's pretty to decorate with while my plant lasted.

It's very pretty especially with the red flower to augment the red in the pot

@JudyEv it was a good idea you had to give it and they're using it appropriately so all is good.

Having a plant in it softens the whole thing and yes, the red does enhance the colour.

Thank you for this picture. It is cold and snowy here, very bitter. We get to enjoy this cute planter and lively plant.

We are the total extreme at the moment. It was over 100F yesterday. Today won't be much better.

@JudyEv That plant looks like purslane, I had some last year. It thrives in the heat.

@LadyDuck I love seeing photos of Jabo's gardens. The flowers in England and Ireland always look so bright and freshly washed. Quite possibly they are washed quite often.

@JudyEv It is very beautiful... but no, that doesn't help me identify it. Thank you for the close-up. I do appreciate it. Edit to add: I just encountered something weird here... I tried to download your photo but my antivirus rejected it saying there was something dangerous about it. I've never encountered something like that before. I'll see if I can figure out why it rejected the photo and let you know if I figure it out.

She did tell me but I've forgotten. It's a type of succulent. Here's a close-up of the flower although I don't suppose it's much help.

@much2say The cup has a hole in the bottom for drainage and the saucer acts as a drip tray to catch any excess water.

These seemed to be very popular over Christmas. We gave two as gifts and I know a lady who has two of her own.

It is a nice feeling when a gift that is given is used. Many just dump them. That looks like a flower arrangement.
