We're not hoarding, really!

We're down to the final four rolls of TP we purchased last year when the shelves were empty. BUT, we didn't buy them from the grocery store where we shop. We got a case from a supplier where we purchase our window cleaning equipment instead. And they only sell by the case. I think there were seventy to rolls in the box or something like that. My husband thought if relatives needed any we could help them out but only one daughter took a bag full and we had to work through the rest. It's nice to have them finally gone and the huge box or of the house.

Back then we had to do what we had to do in order to make sure we had a supply . . . not hoarding, just making sure we were prepared. And the good thing is it did not go to waste. But yah, these things do take up space . Luckily we do not have to think about buying like that anymore (I hope).

@MarshaMusselman We make do with whatever is available at the time . . . I know back then it was you get what you get and you don't get upset.

Nothing wrong buying in bulk like that. Thinking ahead, thinking of your family. It got used and nothing wasted that is what is important.

And we thought we would share. It just didn't work out that way.

I don't blame you. My husband and I have kind of stock piled the stuff, but not from the start. We tend to buy before we run out and make sure to buy enough so it lasts a while. We'd gotten concerned seeing nearly empty store shelves because other people did panic buy. Got to thank the media for that one.

@MarshaMusselman George and I stockpile some dry staples we use everyday. And, that's not going to change. Came in handy when we needed stuff I can't get to right now. I would've gone to the store, had I not had another appointment for this afternoon. I'll save the shopping for when I have more help.

@porwest I know there were people stockpiling TP and other staples long before COVID ever showed up. I'm sure that will never go away completely. Especially when we need something for a meal and there's none to be found. It's ha Ard not to want to buy extras for a bit. We rarely run out of water where we shop but it is common to run out of the ones we prefer. When that happens I've bought two cases before.

I imagine even 4 years after this all started and people began hoarding the stuff they STILL have toilet paper stockpiled somewhere. I remember a friend told me he was going to rent a POD and fill it with the stuff. He never did, but it would have been funny if he had.

I have 74 rolls at home, there was a sale last week and I bought 50 rolls, it's not hoarding, it's keeping in the basement what we know we will use.

@MarshaMusselman We never run out of toilet paper here in Switzerland, you can buy as many rolls as you like. I bought because it was a special sale at -60% of the regular price. It is the one we always use and I know that for one year we are covered.

We just didn't have the space for the whole case right away. In the beginning it stayed in my husband car. Eventually I used a smaller box and bags to load it into. If I had bought that much off the shelf people would consider it hoarding when others didn't have enough for their use.

@LadyDuck I don't have a good storage space for all of that.

Good for you. You had a fair amount of TP supply, which you didn't have to keep buying thereafter. Saved you time with trips to the store, and spending more that's not on the list. Now that they're gone, get some more necessary supplies.

It was a wise move at the time. I just had happened to have stocked up at Sam's Club when the shortage happened. I do not shop at Sam's any more, but I do keep a decent amount of TP on hand and I did share with my sister.

It was nice not having to worry about buying when it was in stock because who knew when that would even be.

I used to only keep a twelve pack on hand. Now that there was a problem getting them last year I may keep an extra twelve pack but not more.

Pretty and I normally keep a 36 roll bag plus an open 36 roll bag on a shelf in our hallway. We were down to six rolls last year when the run on toilet paper started. We bought two more of the 36 roll bags then. We still have one unopened bag and two rolls left in the open one. I saw people are starting to make a run on them again a few days ago. People are so weird!

People are weird or maybe their backup stock is depleted again?

@MarshaMusselman I'm not sure but I think people are just being weird for some reason... Although, talking with the Walmart manager a few days ago he told me Bentonville had ceased sending trucks out for a while. He didn't say why and I didn't think to ask. Shelves all over the store were bare.

That's good to think ahead. Not hoarding. At least now grocery stores have tp in stock now.

Yes, it's good that doesn't seem to lose a problem any longer but now we're out of other things a lot instead.

No, you are not hoarding. You were thinking of the future just in case you need more.

It literally was. And we didn't need that much and had no where good to store it.

Luckily I never ran short during the great TP shortage of 2020. But I would be happy to get rid of any overage myself.

Our grocery store has been having full shelves now for many months. But other things are now low on stock.

I order them online even before the pandemic hit.
