I gave Rufus a reward today

I guess I want my white hair to come in sooner. That's why I adopted young man Rufus.
The temperatures headed to sunny almost Spring this afternoon so I decided to let Rufus be a little freer. He and I are not quite at the I trust you and you trust me stage. He gets on a smell and he could be over the hill in a second. Such a quick little guy.
I took him up behind my house and let his long leash go. I wanted to grab it back but I let it fall to the ground. He raced after Sally. He found out pretty quickly what three acres is all about. He did not go too far but he did get in a couple of nice runs. He also went to the fence by the neighbor geese. They loudly hissed at him. I called him to come back. The nasty hissing had Rufus headed right my way!

At least he was having a lot of fun so that should mean something.

@sallypup Yep. A lot of animals do. We need to be aware of their needs to give them the best lives possible.

@kaylachan Know what? It's just 6:30 pm at my house. We've been exercising Rufus one way or another since 7 this morning.

You're right, @kaylachan. This breed of dog needs brain stimulation and activity or he gets into trouble.

I don't blame you... I'd be nervous letting him loose the first few times, too. He'll learn what's okay and what isn't soon enough.
Hissing geese always made me back away, too.

@sallypup I'm at the lumber stage now. Pretty laughs when I jog along with her. *sigh*
I had geese when I was a kid. They can be mean.

@DaddyEvil If Rufus were to take off, I can't get out of a walk anymore so it would be hard to capture him again. Heelers are super quick. I've raised turkeys but geese and me just don't get along.

@DaddyEvil Geese are huge and like you said, often mean.

Something tells me Rufus is going to be a handful for you guys, but I hope you enjoy him!

@snowy22315 Spot on. Rufus is a handful. I am learning to load a kong ball with peanut butter and for sure exercise him

I'm glad to hear that Rufus got to run and was a good boy! Good boy, Rufus!

@CarolDM Cause of Rufus's breed, I am nervous about what he will do when he meets the neighbor's animals. Rufus has high prey drive. He is prone to grab before he thinks- that includes little barky dogs and domestic birds. He has done well around my own chickens, though.

Geese can be quite frightening when the hiss.
I saw wild Geese here chase a kid and they knocked him over.
Poor kid was petrified.
