'What is your country famous for?' ...Seriously?!?

In one of my morning classes, I asked an 11-year-old boy: 'What is China famous for?' It took time for him to answer. He finally dropped a bomb. 'China is famous for the existence of coronavirus.' Uhm, I did not say anything since it is not allowed. To divert his attention, I just said that the Philippines is famous for beautiful beaches and delicious tropical fruits. What is your reaction if hearing this statement? Has something ever disappointed you? Image Credit: https://i.pinimg.com

Hey! Quit banging on my computer screen! If you break it I will be very upset! You could have told him about the Three Gorges Dam that slowed the Earth's rotation a tiny bit. Here, watch this:
It's a big one. And pretty controversial too. Simon's Social Media:Twitter: https://twitter.com/SimonWhistlerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/simonwhistl...

Too sad to say, I cannot share this link with him. It is a fact that China does not allow to access YouTube and the like. That makes some of them not aware of what is going on around the globe. Thus, I will check it for myself.

I do not need to entertain his answer, since there is nothing to discuss with this matter. Besides, it will be a never-ending story.

@Shavkat Think about this, when you say Sicily you think Mafia, when you say Chicago you think gangsters, when you say China you think Covid... why to deny reality?

It is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave here plus the American Dream. LOL with what the child said but not funny at the same time. I have mixed emotions about it honestly. I like how you diverted his attention. I have seen some content about the Philippines and yes they do have beautiful beaches. I love fruit too so I would get along quite well there. Is it expensive to live there? I bet it would be hard to find a good job?

During the class online, I consider not creating a scar in his mind. I prefer him to learn more about it by himself. The bottom line is he is a smart kid to figure it out more. Living in my country depends on a person's lifestyle. The cost of living is quite pricey to live in big cities as compared to provinces. Finding jobs will be easier for those people who are professionals with pertinent soft skills. At present, it is given that finding a stable job will be a tough one. But the best option is to work at home and find online jobs, which is not for all.

disinformation about that virus is everywhere I can understand the child's parroting something his or her parents said. the US is famous for many things. it really depends on where in the world you are at the time. But the biggest thing is, where there is a disaster anywhere in the world, the US is the first or second country with people on the ground helping!

There are so many places that the USA is famous for. I hope I can visit them in the future. It cannot be denied that your country does help or give reinforcement to countries who were in difficult times. I cannot entertain to what the kid's ideas about this concern since it is forbidden for them to say against their government. Another thing is I cannot say statements that will make me lose my job online.

@Shavkat forbidding speech just means it happens anyway. At some point there is a line of no return and people will cross that, and keep going. but good that you had the restraint not to say anything. Even if it is against the rules, as a teacher you are ethically bound not to.

I wouldnt say anything about that, but I would say that my country, Indonesia is famous for beautiful beaches as well! Most people know Indonesia for Bali because Bali has beautiful beaches. But they should visit Lampung too in Indonesia! Lampung has beautiful beaches as well

the answers of the children were very innocent, maybe I took them to sing I would have looked stupid at that time, you were very cool and handled the situation well sometimes I pretend to be crazy when the unexpected happens to break the ice
