Tsunami warning

While being on Mylot, my two phones began ringing and displayed this tsunami warning to Auckland due to a 8.0M earthquake that occurred in Kermadec Islands east of New Zealand.
Earlier this morning at 2:27AM there was also a 7.3M tremor in the same area. Hope everything will be fine.

@rakski The warning has been lifted at 3:13PM. As my daughter and I were walking to the supermarket, I realized that the sea is just about a few kilometers from the house - more or less 5 kilometers on a straight line.

I felt the 7.3M quake at 2:27AM but not the 8.1M at 8:28AM. I would guess the tremor would have reached as far as Australia.

Just the swaying of the 7.3M tremor at 2:27AM, Janet. Did not feel the 8.3M at past 8. Strong aftershocks are still ongoing at the areas near the 7.3M quake but we don't feel it here in Auckland.

We’re okay though there are aftershocks. A 6.1M aftershock occurred this morning.

Yes - they have very efficient warning system. Even the raising of lockdown levels are also announced via text blast on cellphones.

Oh is that so? I guess its because of the big plates down under that when one moves, it disturbs the other and causes a domino effect.
