S for Saturday and S for Shearing Day

I rang the shearer today to organise to have our two pet sheep shorn. Solomon has a very dense fleece and on a hot day, after the least bit of effort, he pants heavily. I think he and Harry will be pleased to be rid of their wool. We are to take them out there on Saturday morning. We haven’t needed a shearer for several years since our last sheep, Hercules, passed away. I found the shearer’s number under ‘S’ for ‘shearer’ in our personal phone book as I knew I wouldn’t be able to remember his name if I ever needed him again. Similarly, the number for the lady who does dress-making repairs and alterations is under ‘D’ for the same reason. Do you have trouble remembering the names of people you don’t ring often? The photo is of Solomon and Harry, which you’ve seen before. I’ll post another one after S-Day (shearing day).

They look good. The directory is really helpful but I have a problem on its print because it's very tiny and I need a magnifying glass here.

So change the size of the names in the contact list. It's in the settings on your phone.

By 'personal phone book', I meant one I keep with my contact numbers in. I should have been more specific.

I sometimes forget the names of people who are not always kept in touch with me.

It's so easy to forget names. At the time, you don't think you will but after some time, the name goes from your memory.

I'll bet they will be glad to get rid of that wool! I would probably do that, too, "P for plumber" or whatever. Although I can definitely remember my masseur's name!!!!!!

If you contact a person often enough, then it is no trouble to remember a name but I haven't needed the shearer for several years so his name had gone completely. The shearer couldn't remember me either but he remembered Hercules. Isn't that cute?

I hope Harry and Solomon like their new hair cuts... Yes, I do. I usually just start scrolling through my contacts until I come across the name of the person I need, even when I don't remember the name, I recognize it when I see it.

We're past the hottest weather and really, they should have been shorn back in Oct/Nov. It's autumn now but we'll still shear them. They will have enough wool for protection by winter and they have a nice shed anyway.

Which one is Solomon and which is Harry? I'm sure they will be happy to be rid of their coat. Do you sell the wool?

@JudyEv It's a shame wool isn't a popular product any more. I'm hoping that now that people are realising the harm caused by man-made fabrics, wool might have a resurgence. It's also being used for other things; I've used wool insulation in the old house I'm renovating. I was just disappointed to find that the wool used came from places like Lebanon though, and not the British Isles.

The black one is Harry. The wool isn't worth much at all so we'll let the shearer keep it.

@Fleura Even if this was 'good' wool, there is a LOT of energy and time in carding, spinning then knitting it up.

Yes! My husband and I were talking about a friend the other day and I asked him what his ex's first name was. I thought it started with a "c". That didn't help him remember but he threw in that the name was weird. He talked to this friend on the phone yesterday and asked. LOL. Her name was Catina. It may have been spelled with a K, but an odd name. So we were both on the right track but missed the mark! Can't wait to see the picture after the sheep get sheared by mr. S!!

I sometimes think a names starts with a certain letter but it doesn't always help. And I try to match them with another person of the same name but again it doesn't always help. Yes, I'll be sure to post photos later.

Some are stored under names and some under profession. Elect will be for electrician (lol) If I were to store your number it will be under myLot Judy.

Solomon in particular has a very dense coat. I think his breed has a fleece which is used for mats which would explain the thickness.

The wool isn't really worth anything so we'll leave it with the shearer. When he gets a bale full from all the small numbers of sheep that he shears, he will be able to sell it for a small amount.
