We've been away overnight and now heading out again

We attended the funeral today of one of Vince’s cousins. She was 91 so it was a celebration of her life rather than a too-sad occasion. Some of her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a bit teary but possibly it was their first funeral. She was obviously dearly loved by all her family.
We stayed with friends last night. They have moved to a life-style village and took us on a little tour of all the wonderful facilities on offer there. They are very happy with their new place and kept dropping hints about us moving there too. I must say it is pretty tempting but I think we need a few more years here first.
In about an hour we’re heading to a winery to watch a film which was made in the south-west of our state. Sam Neill has a leading role in it so I hope it’s good. I’m sure it will be. Tomorrow is the day we take our two sheep, Solomon and Harry, to be shorn. I wonder what they’ll think of that.
The photo shows one reason why we’re not keen to move. We would really miss the lifestyle we have here.

I understand the need for people to move on from the life they've always led, but wonder how they'll face their new life. In my opinion, a person should keep the life they love for as long as they are physically/mentally able to keep it.

@JudyEv True... Mom wasn't happy when my oldest brother put her into an assisted living center but mom couldn't make her own meals or keep the house clean anymore by herself. She kept begging us to take her home again but of course, we couldn't. It almost broke our hearts when she'd beg like that but none of us could stay with her to care for her at home.

@DaddyEvil I do understand. Mum went into a nursing home at 99 and, although she'd always said she didn't want to go there, she didn't make a fuss about it. Just occasionally, from time to time after that, she'd beg to go home and I know it is heart-breaking.

I can never imagine you moving from where you currently live. It just wouldn't be the same!

@JudyEv You don't think you and Vince could live out your final days on the old homestead?

@moffittjc Not really. Once we lose our driving licences we'd be stuck here. There are supposed to be 'care packages' where people come in and help but at the moment, they can't get enough employees so the waiting list is long. We don't need this yet but the situation may be even worse by the time we do. We don't want to have the decision made for us either.

You both seem so content living where you are.
Sometimes seeing others so happy with a new set up, and the thought of joining them can be exciting, all in time.
I do love the picture of the kangaroos, they remind me so much of the wild deer that we see in our region.

True but we were very impressed with our friends' new abode. We could still do the photos from anywhere. That's our main hobby at the moment.

I like the way you said the passing of Vinces cousin was a celebration of her life. I hope that's how I'm remembered.
Hope Solomon and Harry are happy without their heavy coats.
It's hard to give up living where you do but I guess at some point you'll consider downsizing.

This will all get too hard to manage one day so best to go while we can make the decisions and not have them made for us.

It is certainly lovely here and it will be hard to leave when the time comes.

We want to stay where we are as long as possible too. I know you would miss your 18 acres and the 'roos. Sorry to hear about Vince's cousin. She lived a very long life. Solomon and Harry definitely will have a new experience. Have they never been shorn before?

Our decision to move from city life was easy as city life was become intolerable.

I dont plan to move until I can no longer take care of things here. Unless I hit the lottery. Then I will move somewhere a little warmer

Would the other place have kangaroos combing that close? You finally got your trees grown and you're still young yet, I would think you'd want to wait but it might depend on the pros and cons.

@JudyEv as we all are. We have a lot of updating too do and clearing out junk before we ever get to that point. Maybe by the time we're in our eighties we might consider it.

Sorry to hear of your husband cousin's passing. You had a nice visit. You know what to do for your life's home. I live alone, so it's different. Right now, I'm fine, so I like where I live too.

It's like going with the flow of life. Who knows I might win the sweeps I've entered in pvh.vom 259k a year for life. If I win, I'd be living in those condo type setting that does cleaning, cooking and has medical staff in hand. Have a moving crew to pack up and live like a tourist till heaven calls.

My first boss years ago, moved to one of those facilities. He has sent me many pictures. Seems like a more relaxed way to live than Assisted living. I would like someone else doing the yard work!

They have their own house but in a community of older citizens with certain benefits and facilities that they are all entitled to. It's quite tempting really.
