The stars are aligning

We are making a concerted effort to declutter. We have huge cupboards which run the length of a passage and have been able to put away many things ‘in case’ we might want them one day. It’s time now to scale down our belongings just ‘in case’ we move from here.
It seems the stars are aligning as we discovered that, in a few weeks, and in between endurance rides, there is a car boot sale being held at Yabberup near here. Boot in Australia equals trunk in the US, not sure what it’s called in other countries. It’s like having a combined garage/yard sale at a central point.
A car boot sale suits us better than having a garage or yard sale on the property. We are in quite an isolated place and I’d rather not let all and sundry know where we live. There is a back entrance through the bush and it would be easy for would-be thieves to have open slather once they were at the house. So today we’ll go through the big shed and the workshop looking for things to sell. After that, I’ll start on items in the house that we no longer need.
Photo of the shelves. One sliding door has been pushed back but there are six of these doors which is a LOT of shelf space.

That's cool! I hope you have a car with a very large storage area/trunk/boot so you can take a lot of stuff and sell it all!

Oh, wow! I'm sure you and Vince will make some good money getting rid of things you no longer need.
Pretty held several yard sales over the years at our old house and always made lots of money. If we hadn't had to move in only two weeks when we moved here, we might have had one for all the extra stuff we had there. As it was, we only had time to load stuff into our car and friend's vehicles and take it all to a thrift shop before we moved.

@JudyEv I hope you make a good chunk of change from what you sell.

@DaddyEvil It would be nice but in a way it's more important to get rid of stuff.

It would be nice to have all that storage but it would be easier to keep what's not needed anymore too. I have some storage in drawers but in the hallway that I finally went through a few years ago to eliminate things
I like the idea of a yard sale in car boots. Although it seems like it would be hard to see everything that you have in there. If think taking a table, larger than the one you have for picnics unless someone stayed to make sure that didn't walk off. But a table could better easily display your items.
Me, I just take things to giveaway instead. A lot less hassle.

It is a good idea to declutter. Last year, my husband and I got rid of a lot of things. You forget all that accumulates in the house over the years.

It's quite a social gathering. There is usually tea and coffee available, perhaps a sausage sizzle. Everyone who is selling pays $5. The money from this one will go towards upkeep of the little Yabberup Hall. I don't think we'd have enough items to have a really successful garage sale on our own but this way there will be more for people to browse through and they'll probably hang around longer. And hopefully buy more.

It's a very creative way to provide extra storage space for your belongings.
I hope you do well at the car boot sale.
Why is it called a "boot" in Australia instead of a trunk?

@JudyEv Because when people are traveling, they put their clothes trunks in the back of the car. Hence the "trunk." I assume it's called "boot" in Australia because that's where you all put your boots?

@moffittjc You have a better reason than any I can think up for 'boot'. However, we don't often talk about 'trunks'. It's usually suitcases.

Well, better not to attract the wrong attention though they may make the whole process easier and faster!
In thicker populated countries especially, people tend to live in apartments as it is safer as we get older.
Yes, it gets tougher and more tedious the more we postpone such. We have been doing this for a couple of years now.

That is a good point you make! If thieves take everything, we won't have to worry, will we?
The place we are looking at is a 'gated community' meaning gates into the area are closed in the evenings and you then need a code to get in and out. Everyone within the community is aged 55 or over.

@JudyEv Yes, that is a concept that has caught on in many countries.
When people of similar ages live together within a gated community, it is easier to find common interests, make travel plans to suit their interests etc. Then some who do not want to cook for themselves can have their meals in a common dining area where food is prepared and served. Also medical needs are arranged too.

Good luck with the sale. We have been getting rid of "stuff" for years and still have a lot to go. I donate it; and my husband brings more stuff home. lololol

@LindaOHio When the boys were little, library sales were just the best fun. We used to bring home boxfuls too.

@JudyEv Fortunately (or unfortunately) I can't get around much; so I can't go to the library book sales. I used to bring home boxes full of books.

I'm just doing a few shelves/boxes each day. And I'm doing all the easy bits first! Thanks for the kind words.

They do boot sales (trunk) here in Maryland. In Indiana, it is always a yard or garage sale.
Although when it comes to yard or garage sales I can tell you that the person hosting the sale, seldom smiles when you ask to buy a piece of the yard or a piece of the garage!

Of course, we can take it to the new place if and when we go but past that, you can't take it.
