Over the hill and far away

This morning, we went down to the big shed to sort out some of the items there. There were two tyres that are of no use so I wheeled one out to add to others that were already outside. Once outside the door, I gave it a push to send it over a bit of a bank. I thought it would fall over onto the others that are there. However, it bounced down the bank and continued on its merry way down the paddock. No drama – it was bound to stop when it reached the fence which consists of five plain wires. But it went straight through the fence and continued down the next paddock heading for our little dam. Up the bank of the dam it went, did a bit of a curve then down the bank out of sight and I presume it’s now in the water. I told Vince about the tyre. He was a bit incredulous so I did the same thing with the second tyre and off down the paddock it went, straight through the fence and on towards the dam. However, this one veered a little to the left and went on to explore the bush around the dam. If you had wanted the tyres to do that, there is no way it would have happened. Oh well, such is life. The photo is of our friend’s little dog,Mopsy, at the edge of the dam.

i would bet if you did that 20 times, you wouldn't get those results more than the 2 times you did!

Don't you think so? I couldn't get over it going through the fence. Obviously the wires need tightening.

@DocAndersen I just expected them to wobble and fall over before they even got to the fence but no, they had a great old time rolling down the paddock.

@JudyEv I would have figured the fence or friction would have stopped it

Did Vince's mouth drop open when the second tire tried to join it friend?

@JudyEv I wondered about that. Was it a really old fence?

@DaddyEvil Not really - 17 years. It's just five plain wires but it isn't as tight as it could be. The wires never even slowed up the tyres. lol And one went through quite close to the post

He was a bit astounded by the way it sent through the fence as though it wasn't there. lol

Yes many times you wheel the tyre to go to a particular place and it ends up going somewhere else. That is the fact of life also.

I felt sure it would fall over but it just kept rolling. It was downhill all the way till it got to the dam area.

@LadyDuck I can't imagine either Harry or Solomon putting up with this. Solomon might but Harry would panic big time.

I think we'll find it on the edge and will be able to pull it out. The other one is in the bush. Mopsy was a cute little dog. She was a friend of Herc's.

I'm sure we'll find it on the edge and be able to retrieve it. The other one went the other side of the dam so didn't go into the water.

I should imagine it's sitting on the edge. We'll check in a day or two when we go down there.

Mopsy is adorable. Made me smile. We used to play inside the tires as a kid, rolling down the hill. Not sure how we survived some of the things we did.

Oh gosh, rolling down a hill in a tyre sounds a bit risky. I'm sure it was a lot of fun though.

It's a Maltese/Shih Tzu cross. They're very popular here. Some come out more like one breed or the other but they all have lovely temperaments. Here is another friend's little dog - same cross.

These tyres seem to be quite determined about where they wanted to go.
