And the results are in. . .

I got home, we rounded up the three kitties and off we went to the vet.
The first surprise that was not a surprise is that Bibsy is actually a girl. The vet bill just took a giant leap upwards. It costs more to spay a female than to neuter a male.
Second not surprising surprise is that Angel is pregnant. There are at least two, maybe three babies. The vet said that is much better than one big one. The vet offered to spay her anyway and kill the kittens but that is not me. I could see the heartbeats on the ultra sound. I am a softy. Vet says she is probably due in two weeks.
Third surprise, that again is not surprising. . . they still have worms. I have been treating them with a natural product but it was not strong enough since they have been living on foraged food and mice. So they get worm shots. Angel got worms and a rabies shot. Cannot get the others while pregnant.
So that is how the vet visit went today. We will pick up Bibsy and Lady Wednesday morning.

Doesn't surprise me. I could never kill kittens, either. Instead, I'd wait until the kittens were weened then spay the mom.

@kaylachan I grew up with many many cats and kittens. I ALWAYS get my cats spayed or neutered as soon as possible.

That is exactly what will happen. The vet even said to wait until the milk is completely dried up so she has the most comfortable results.

@GardenGerty I don't blame them. I would agree. I've never personally delt with a pregnant cat, but I had delt with a cat in heat. My parents got her fixed after the heat cycle ended. Never want to listen to another female in heat, again.

I will find homes for the new ones once they are born. I just cannot see abortion for even the kitties.

Well, that was an interesting vet visit. I only have two dogs and Brie is spayed. Roscoe is not neuterd.

Having grown up in a home with too many prolific breeders I always take care of the spayng and neutering.

@moffittjc Guess where part of my stimulus is going. In the long run, proper vet care, spaying and neutering is cheaper than raising kittens.

I kind of suspected them all. We told the vet we could not tell about Bibsy and she said she once was ready to do a spay or neuter and found out the gender was wrong, and we have had that situation before, so it really was not too surprising.

@GardenGerty Still quite a lot of information to receive all at once. I hope your vet bill is not too high.

There are way too many neglected and abandoned cats in the world. By spaying and neutering our pets we help keep many generations of kittens from being born.

@ladyhero Not everyone will spay or neuter them. I do not think there is much of a chance of them becoming extinct.

I guess you better get those "Free to a good home signs ready." I don't think I could kill the kittens in utero either.

I think some people insist on things like that, because she did not seem really to want to. She said Angel will make a good mama.

Right, and I knew she had not been outside since March 1. Gestation is around 64 days so she was at least a third of the way along.

No, she will not get spayed until the babies are born and weaned and the milk is dried up. I think if I persist with the regular DE we will keep the worm situation down. It does not hurt to give it a little help though.

Bibsey is a nice name. You really got surprises from the vet. So will you give away the kittens or keep them?

I will give them away, hopefully. I really had not planned on becoming the crazy cat lady. I guess the previous owner named Bibsey because she has a white bib under her very black little chin.

I bought worm meds from the pet shop. Every cats behave and take it well except for the drama princess, Lala.
Spaying is more expensive than neutering here as well. I don't understand why.
I wouldn't kill the kittens too. I might grumble about the extra cost to feed them but I can't kill them.

Spaying involves an actual surgery and is invasive. Neutering is done under local anesthetic./
