I finally got half of my money!

Perth, Australia
March 27, 2021 9:23am CST
Not all that long ago I made a post regarding $100 that my friend owed me which was taking over a year for her to pay etc. She said she would pay me half but it didn't happen. To save me doing a long post, if you don't know about this or would like to refresh your memory, please feel free to read it as it will honestly make this post make more sense: So anyway, moving forward. She FINALLY paid me $50 on the 17th March. Yes I am happy but I am annoyed because she was the one who told me she would transfer me the money on that day. But nothing happened during the day UNTIL I messaged her to remind her about it (I contacted her roughly 9pm that night because I waited all day for her to message me to say that the money was coming which of course she didn't do because she didn't do it). And I find it odd that the money came through instantly instead of the "3 days wait to transfer" that she said when she was meant to send it to me before. Anyway whatever I got it. I thanked her. She replied back with "Ya welcome I will give u the other 50 next Thursday." Surprise, surprise, Thursday has come and gone and I haven't got it. Nor, have I received a message giving me an excuse or apology. And to be honest, that is what bothers me the most. Personally, if I owed someone money (mind you I'd never wait over a year or lie about being too broke to pay back) but I'd keep them updated. Anyway, whatever, over a year later, I have FINALLY received at least half of what she owes me. Will need to get my running shoes on to chase after the rest. And yes, I am grateful for at least getting half but I am still angry about the long delay, the lies / poor excuses and for constantly chasing her as not once, has she messaged me regarding my money. And nope, I won't be lending her money ever again! ****picture from pixabay which I'm using for the first time****
Some time ago I did a post about my friend who owes me money. I will try to quickly summarise it. --February 2020, I lent her $100 as her dog was sick and I...

I would NEVER lend her money again. And without telling her, I´d delete her from my list of friends.

@marguicha If she wasn't who she was (being the sister of the dude I am seeing) then I would delete her off my list for sure. But for now, I will just never lend her any more money ever again.

What a rude person! At least you got back the half, but she must pay you also the other half. Not be shy to remind her that "she forgot" to pay what promised.

@VivaLaDani13 I fully agree with you, you have been kind enough to give her money, she must pay back and immediately now.

@LadyDuck Thank you for that. I messaged her about 20 minutes ago asking about it and told her I thought it was coming Thursday. She said that she didn't have it. Is it so hard to inform me? Ugh! So now apparently it's coming next Thursday.

@LadyDuck I will be sure to follow up on the other half ASAP as I need that to help me out / help my dad out. I won't be letting her off that easy. She needs to learn to pay back to people who have been kind enough to help her.

Ohhh, I remember that. This certainly says something about her character , and I'd have to wonder when you would ever get that last half of what she owes you.

@VivaLaDani13 It's awful she is giving you the run around like that. She acts as if she has no shame . . . I mean, I would be so embarrassed for even asking a friend for money - let alone ignoring to repay them in a timely manner. Not cool.

@much2say I agree. I'm angry now from all the times I've heard about her and her family being taken advantage of as now I know she has done it to me! I'm hoping I can get it soon. It's pathetic I must chase after it and trying to get her to do the right thing.

@much2say I agree with you. I don't mind people asking as I know we can all have those times in our lives but I really don't like it when people put their debts at the very end of their priority list. Especially when they are aware it's urgent to pay back!

It is very complicated to lend money to someone. One time I lent money to a colleague, it was 60 euros, and I waited one year I think until he say something about it and because he never said anything I had to ask him. It was very bad for me because even though the money was mine it was very hard to ask him for it because we are expecting that people give it back to us and not that we will have to ask for it. It was very uncomfortable for me not just because we worked together and this could turn the working environment different but thank god he paid me in two times and he treated me the same as always and I did the same. I hope your friend pays you back the other 50 dollars but you are right in not lending her money ever again. If she was a true friend she would say something at least. Give you some reason why she is late for the payment and not just be silent and put you in an uncomfortable situation of being after her to have it back.

@sweetloveforeve I'm so glad he paid you back and the situation didn't turn nasty or anything. Exactly right. I'm so angry she didn't do the right thing. So in return, from the way she treated me, I will never lend her anything ever again. I'd rather protect myself from something like this ever happening again.

I would be mad at her and would never trust her again. And definitely would hesitate to lend her money in future. The least that we expect from people is to be honest and truthful. Hope you get the rest half sooner or later.

@arunima25 I agree! I will never put myself in that position ever again so I won't ever lend her anymore money no matter what as this wasn't fair on me at all. Thank you kindly.

That is awful. that is how most people do you, especially these days. Glad you got half of it but I would still stay on her for the est even if you never get it. People need to learn that nice people are tired of helping people who get taken for granted and disrespected and lied to. It causes us to never lend again because of it or trust people.

@stephcjh I agree as this isn't the first time this has happened to me. I have a small handful of people who I know will never pay me back. I regret helping them. I seriously applaud your comment! "People need to learn that nice people are tired of helping people who get taken for granted and disrespected and lied to." You said this perfectly! And this is how I feel 100%.

@VivaLaDani13 I know what you mean. I have regrets from the past like that too. Never again is all I can say. Thank you for the compliment. So sick of the way people always do me. I get lied to all of the time from people and businesses these days. I have definitely had my fill of it.

It happens there are people who have the habit of borrowing money and never return it back. I had a very close friend who did the same and it took me around 4 years to get my money back from him. From that I never lend money to anyone. I believe we should never let the money come between friendship.

@JudyEv Will do. I won't let it go. It's quite ironic that her and her family talk often about how people owe them yet she has done to me exactly what she's been sad about people doing to her.

What if she is having money issues that she is not comfortable to discuss? Have you never been to a scenario where when you think you are all good issues keep emerging. Not unless she has the habit but if it was a one time thing is better getting to personal level than judging. Some people tend to be rude to the people who they owe them not because they want to but they are simply venting.

@mosherii I don't and am not judging her at all. I know a lot about her personal life. And I can tell you, I KNOW she has been lying to me about her financial struggles. Not only through her own slip ups but from her brother and mother. She told me she couldn't pay me money because she is struggling yet posts photos of her brand new puppy that she bought for over $2000. I've always been so polite to her, patient and understanding for OVER A YEAR! I lent her this money in February 2020. But I keep finding out she is lying to me about her not "having enough money" to pay me back. How can she buy a puppy for over $2000 and consider buying a $6000 massage chair and not be able to pay me back $100? Thank you for your comment, but I know this person. She is an open book but she has been telling me fibs. I wouldn't be venting about her if she truly was struggling. I'm not that shallow!

@moffittjc I'm not sure but I have wondered that myself to be honest. And to be even more honest, if I found out there were others and they got their money back ages ago, that would only annoy me further.
