I got four birthday cakes today! (and a request: "let's have another talk.")

I suppose none them knew that I don't have that much of a sweet tooth. The birthday cakes came from my four groupies, even though they've never heard me play rock 'n roll. They even asked whether I had my guitar with me. They are the four Latina girls who were my students last year, before the pandemic. I've known each of them since they were 1 1/2-years-old. Now, their playground is right next to ours (they're in the 3-and-above class), separated by a three-foot chain-link fence. Yesterday, they came up to the fence while I was watching my current 1 1/2 to 2 1/2-year-olds. We had a lengthy conversation about how our years had gone. They remembered my name (Mr. Horse). Today, when we were all outside, one of them said "Let's have another talk." I knew exactly what she meant She wanted me to sit by the fence so we could chat again whiile I watched the "younger" kids. Later, I obliged her, and while we chatted, one of the girls made me a birthday cake. It was made out of sand, and had one candle in it (a twig that had fallen from a nearby tree). I gobbled it up, saying "num num num," and they all laughed. Then I shared my cake with each of them. Not to be outdone, the other three made me birthday cakes as well. For the record, my birthday is in September. I left my friend's preschool with a happy heart. But I still had to teach four guitar and piano lessons at Guitar Center later in the day. I'll write about that later. Are there certain things in your life that just warm your heart beyond measure?

@vandana7 It's the other way around, actually. Kids like to put stuff in their mouths. I teach them how to take "pretend bites" and then laugh.

I'm not sure what their home lives are like. But when I was "their" teacher (when they were "little") we played in the sand a lot together, and chatted away about birds and trees and things.

If I age a year for each sand birth cake I've eaten, I'm about 350 years old.

@TheHorse I think male teachers are less likely to discriminate and less likely to be indifferent towards their such jobs as they would not take it up in the first place if they did not like doing it.

That's very cool. Have you heard about Francis Wardle's Book, "Oh Boy!"? He talks about the importance of having more male teachers out there, especially as role models for boys. Maybe I'll elaborate in a post. Given our exprerince, it's not a "necessary read," and its main points can be summarized in a few sentences. But I'm glad the book is out there.

My rescued kitties make me very happy and content. Most of my kitties are in their senior years and one of the kitty is unable to walk, his name is Zorro. Me and my daughter takes turns in keeping Zorro happy as he has give us love for many years. Right now I have 7 cats that we are taking care of and all my kitties are very adorable and loving. My day goes by very fast in taking care of them, cleaning the litter, feeding them and doing their dishes etc.

It's fun have someone (or someones) to care for. I miss Horse Jr.. Hey, put commas between your "key words" so they can more successfully invite folks to your comment.

He wanted dog poop icing ..exactly like that. In fact, he might order a birthday cake this year that has poop designs of birds, lizards, dogs, cats, horses, etc. With pony, expect the expected.

You had an excellent non-birthday day. Now if you revise the first sentence you can get rid of both of those 'that's without changing the meaning of the sentence.
