What is Going On?

I have written posts about missing food before. It has been going on for months. Yesterday was really puzzling. I cleaned the refrigerator and found that things were missing. The ones I remember are a dozen eggs, a pork chop, a small container of ice cream, and a bag of apples. What could be going on? It is getting scary. I have had missing food before, cookies, crackers, and chips. Now it is eggs, meat, and such. I know I live by myself and don't have many visitors because of the virus. Is it ghosts? They don't eat these items, do they?

Somebody has a key to your apartment, get your locks changed:) A previous resident, no doubt.

I have lived here for almost 20 years and have changed the locks a couple of times. I know of one person who has keys that fit but I don't even know where she is. My son has a key, but he knows I would give him anything and rip my heart out if he needed it.

@kobesbuddy Not only who but why. It is a mystery. Will I be shocked when I find it is someone I know well or will it be a complete stranger?

@akalinus It's a mystery, I hope you find out who's doing this.

This stuff happens to me sometimes. If I worry about it, it gets worse. If I ignore it, it lessens. I don't try to figure out anymore what is going on.

I'm glad to know that it is not just me. Thanks for telling me. If you ever do figure it out, let me know. I don't worry about it too much, it just drives me crazy not knowing why this is happening. If you came to my door and said you were hungry, I would share what I have. I don't like stuff just suddenly missing.

Ghosts do not eat food, there is someone who comes inside your home and steals things.

@akalinus If it is someone who can see you, of course they sneak inside when they know you are not there.

@LadyDuck I am going to try some things to see if someone was here when I was not. Like sprinkle something near the door to see if there are any tracks, or put a small piece of clear tape across the space between the door opening and the wall to see if it was disturbed.

That seems obvious but how is it I never see anyone sneaking around?

At first I thought this is quite funny but after I thought about it it isn't very funny. I have heard, as the other person says, of people sleep walking and doing strange stuff. I think the easiest first step would be to do an inventory list of what's in your fridge. Date it and check regularly and mark things off as you use them. Then, if it is still happening, it'd be time to come up with more ideas.

Thanks. That is a good idea. It is scary to think a strange person would take things out of my fridge and cupboards.

@akalinus I wonder how it happens. Better install a hidden camera. But if you think it is is a ghost ,the camera can't capture it.

Anna is right. Ghosts do not need food and don't eat. It must be someone who comes when I am not there and gets out quickly.

@akalinus I'm told ghosts eat.But they can't be captured in a camera.I don't know if what I'm told is true.If it is a thief, you can know who it is.

@Shivram59 Are you saying a ghost can be a thief? Oh, I think I know. Ghosts cannot be filmed, right? They don't show up on the tape??

@tahel1 Why would I do that? I spend a certain amount on food each month and it needs to last so I can eat every day. I would not throw good food out.

I don't think so but anything is possible. I am not gaining weight but I would if I was eating so much food. I thought about that, too.

I’m pretty sure it’s not supernatural and I agree I would put in a camera. I’d be concerned someone is entering you place. I would change the locks

That is very scary. I would put a hidden camera in front of the fridge and pantry. I am curious to know if it is a ghost or not.

It has to be someone or something. Things disappear. Maybe someone invented a way to float things out of people's kitchens without being seen. I just don't know what to think.

I think you are eating these things and just don't remember. Or (the horror writer in me kicks in), someone is getting into your house unknowing. Luckily though he is just eating your food and not doing anything else. I think we can rule out ghosts. I think you'd just find piles of food on the floor by the refrigerator. The food probably goes right through them.

Thanks for the laugh even if the visual is a little unnerving. I just came home from shopping. I bought two salads. I ate a portion of one and bagged it and put it in the fridge. I cannot find the other one. It is missing. A couple of salads lasts me several days. You could write a horror story about me.

@porwest To add to the fodder, I went to church last night. Came home and found a pile of peanut shells next to my door. Don't know what to make of that. I have not had peanuts in the shell here since before the pandemic started.

I guess I better start looking for one. If someone is coming in, I could use the videos as proof if I call the cops or something.

It is kind of eery, isn't it, when you aren't really sure what happened to things in your house? Sometimes it gives me the creeps to think that someone might be coming in here. I hope you are just misplacing things.

I know we get thieves that steal things outside such as golf carts, things left in sheds, or cars. They come through a few times a year. I hope no one is entering people's private houses.

@Nevena83 Did you catch them at it?k It takes a lot of nerve to steal from people like that. We had a guy here that did that kind of thing. He went back up north. I don't miss him a bit.

Fig Newtons are one thing but a dozen eggs or a half-pint of ice cream are something else. I could make the fig bars disappear and be happy about it.
