Back home again and another COVID outbreak in Perth

We have had a few problems with our internet so I haven’t been on here as much the last few days. Also, we attended a horse endurance ride yesterday but were able to come home in the afternoon. We were supposed to be taking photos at the ride. The rides have a number of checkpoints which are usually manned by the SES (State Emergency Services) but an outbreak of COVID in our capital meant that they were ordered not to attend. By the time anyone knew about the outbreak, the competitors had all arrived at the venue. The event was held with everyone back to wearing masks. We offered to man a checkpoint so weren’t able to take very many photos. We had a nice spot under some trees. The first horses came through at 1am. We caught a few hours sleep between 3am and 6am and ended our checkpoint duties about 3pm so decided to come straight home. Today is Anzac Day in Australia when we remember the sacrifices so many men and women made for their country. There is a public holiday tomorrow. I really need to see where we are as regards the coronavirus. The Perth and Peel districts are under lockdown again as the two positive cases had been out and about in the community and had visited a number of different businesses and cafes. The photo shows our caravan. The two-way radio is attached to the car batteries. The side and behind me are small heaps of lucerne hay and carrots for the horses. There is also water available, and bottled water and packets of lollies for the riders.

It is so nice having your 'house' within easy reach when you're stuck on a checkpoint all day.

@DocAndersen Some are very impressive nowadays - and very big! It will be exciting picking out the one you want.

@JudyEv we are actually buying one later this year. We've been wanting to do so for about 10 years.

Hi Judy, yes we've been hearing a lot about the Perth lockdown here. Good on your powers that be for reacting quickly. Hope you are safe? And yes, we also had ANZAC day yesterday and for the first time have a Mondayised holiday today since it was on Sunday.

@JudyEv I thought that would be the case. We're keeping our fingers crossed here that nothing too serious goes wrong with the NZ - Aussie opened borders.

@valmnz They had no sooner opened the borders than there was a new case or two.

Good to hear from you. One thing with being out in the 'bush', although it hardly qualifies, is that mostly you don't have a lot of contact with others. But we're fine thanks - and there have been no new cases so far which is pretty incredible really. Of course, anything could still happen.

The caravan is very convenient and allows us to do a lot more travelling than would otherwise be the case.

@DaddyEvil Thanks for your concern but we feel fairly confident that we'll be okay. We were out in the open all day and never too close to anyone else.

Sorry to hear about the outbreak. We still have the virus in all 50 states as far as I know. We go out to eat once a month or so but are very careful. A lack of visitors will give you more time to get ready to move, although It's a shame they won't be able to come. Stay safe and have a lovely new week.

You can lose a lot of time with visitors - and every time someone comes to buy something, that's a bit more time gone.

@LindaOHio We still have a month and we're starting to make a mark now. Last night we sold a lot of tools which was good.

You need to be cautious as it will be from two to thousand in no time. It was good that the government act soon and lockdown was done there. Hope things doesn't get worse like we do have in India.

We had a very pleasant spot under the trees. Anzac Day is the equivalent of your Memorial Day when we honour our military personnel.

@judyev This virussy thingamebob really does spoil everyone’s fun. Our hairdressers are open now - first since Christmas, and the republic is still at its highest level of lock down.

@JudyEv My preparations to move house have been complicated by my having to bring a lot of my father’s stuff from his old flat so that I could hand the keys in. I have made so many runs to the dump, and it’s a very fussy dump, taking only certain items. Will you still get to go photographing horses when you move?

@xFiacre If you can't access op shops, then I guess the only other option is the dump. We took a load out today - mostly building scrap, hoses, etc. Tomorrow we'll take iron and steel scrap and paint tins. We're keeping the caravan and will be able to continue with the photography which is a great thing. It will get us out in the countryside at least most fortnights from April to November.

I don't understand how they let hairdressers open. Surely they are in as close contact as anyone. As for us, while it's a bit of a worry, it might mean that some who intending visiting won't be able to come which is a bit sad but we are also running short of time. You don't get much done when there are visitors in the house.

@JudyEv All it takes is one person to spread it. Just look at the rest of the world. So sorry and I hope it’s contained.

I think the whole state is on tenterhooks as the positive person had visited SO many venues while he was infectious.

I think you might be thinking of the bus that we converted. We sold that some time ago and bought the caravan instead. Yes, we will keep the caravan at a friend's place and plan to go off in it quite often.

@YrNemo Yes, we were happy with our price. The caravan is actually more convenient as you can park it and then have a 'normal' vehicle to go traipsing around in. But the bus was certainly very comfortable with such a lot of room compared to the caravan.

It hasn't been too bad. We haven't been in continual lockdowns which is good. They impose them when and if we get a new case.
