I found out what my "employee discount" is on more expensive stuff at Guitar Center the other day.

I need a Shure SM-58 microphone for vocals. The "discount" cost anywhere you look is $99 plus tax. I checked on the price for employees at Guitar Center with my Supervisor. It's $75 plus tax. I'm going to get one. A few days later, I found an "inexpensive" guitar I really like. It's called a Martin D-10E, or something like that. Its discount price is $799 plus tax. The cost for me? $600 plus tax. My N = only two (N means sample size), but it appears that the discount on more expensive stuff is about 25%. My "inexpensive" acoustic-electric right now is a Larrivee D-03. I bought it for $500 or so on Craigslist. Used ones are selling for over $1000 on Craigslist now. I could sell the Larrivee, buy the Martin, and put about $350 in the bank. Should I go for it? It would be a long-term project, as selling guitars on Craigslist is a slow process. I have more to say, but I'll save those for comments. I have to head off to "work." Photo is of the Larrivee D-03 "naked," as I was restringing it.

Are you tired of the Larrivee? If so, then yes, go ahead and sell it and buy the Martin. If you're wanting to buy the Martin "just cause" then... *shrug*

I have another Larrivee. It's the first guitar I'd grab if my house was on fire. This one is my #4 guitar.

Go for it! You might have seller's remorse tho so make sure you are sure you want to do it first

I'm looking into that. The guitar I'd sell is #4 on my depth chart, but it has a story behind it that I like to tell.

It all depends on how much you like or not like your current guitar as opposed to the possible new one.

I like both. But I seem to play really fast and easy on the potential new one. I bet it's already gone when I get to Guitar Center to teach today.

@TheHorse It is not a good advice, sometimes going with your heart brings you to make big mistakes when it's about buying stuff... I experienced even too many times.

@TheHorse It is music like this because of which we are still friends and you are alive. Otherwise, you would be deep fried in hot oil.

Vanny's silly wisdom nuggets. 1. Old is gold. 2. In COVID times expecting profits after sale ...I am not sure. 3. Can you use Martin D at the shop? If you can...spend some more time with it, may be you will tire of it, or may be you will note why Larrivee commands better pricing

@TheHorse LOL... Ok..store...my bad LOL I doubt if Larrivee or Martin will go as fast as you think. Have your fill. If you are not playing Larrivee..it may be worth selling. But buying Martin..not sure. Kinda you do have other guitars.

Not sure what you're saying here. Are you using a translator? Buwaahaa! What shop? At the store? I can use it as long as it's there. But I think I'm going to sell my lesser Larrivee (it needs to be played, and I rarely play it), and stick with the guitars I have.

I think I will. The psychologist in me says change is good IF you have several things that are stable. In this case it's the guitars I would "never" (heh) sell.
