Took a glucose test and my daughter is giving blood

This past Friday I went to the hospital to have a glucose test done. The doctor told me I didn’t need to fast first but I didn’t want any amount of sugar to interfere with the test and cause me to have to do a long test if I failed it. I got there at 10:50 and didn’t realize the lab closed at noon so the lady was really kind to stay about 15 minutes late so I could have the test done. I was so thankful after the hour drive there. I spend the rest of the day after the one hour test geocaching and getting groceries. While geocaching I saw what you see in the photo I attached. It was way away from the rest of the cemetery so it baffled me when I saw it in the middle of the woods. No markings on it or anything just a stone wall in a v shape going to it. I love when geocaches show me neat things like this. Today at 12:30 my daughter is going to give blood at the school. My niece is going with her with I thought was nice they both wanted to donate and can do it together. My daughter may not weigh enough though but hopefully she does as my niece would be upset to have to stay there alone and do it. Tomorrow my daughter is going to a school an hour away to job shadow the welding teacher there where she will be attending school next year. I have to go tomorrow as well to redo the glucose test. This will be a stronger sugary solution I have to drink and it will be at least an hour longer I have to sit and wait to have my blood drawn. I’m not looking forward to it at all. I hope I feel well enough after to do some geocaching although it’s supposed to thunderstorm so I’ll have to see how the weather looks at the time.

It reminds me of the chimneys in the houses here, the part of the chimney at the rooftop looks like part of the image you shared. Is your daughter in good health to donate blood? I had ever had interest to donate blood but my mom warned me not to do it. I was around 16 years back then.

@mildredtabitha that's interesting I've never seen a roof like that before. Yes my daughter is good and healthy. They didn't even weigh her though which I was surprised about.

@shaggin I'm glad she is. Do people donate freely in your country or are paid? In my country, people donate for free but the patient needs to pay the hospital to be given blood

@mildredtabitha they have blood drives like this once a month I believe where people donate blood for free. There are different things where you can give blood plasma and get paid for it but there aren’t any of those in town here.

@Tampa_girl7 yep I passed the second test thankfully so I don’t have gestational diabetes. He said say though that people who fail the first test and pass the second do tend to have 8 pounders. I passed the first test yet my daughter was born 8 lbs 3 oz so I’m quite nervous how big this baby may be.

@Tina30219 they didn't even weigh her she just estimated her weight which I know she said she was heavier then she is. I looked online after and you only have to be 110 pounds to give blood. She was about 116 the last time she was weighed so shes okay weight Wise. However we found out about a week ago that her ferratin levels in her blood are to low so for her safety she cannot give blood for a year. I passed the second glucose test thankfully.

@RebeccasFarm I wanted to today but it was so hot in my room last night I couldn't sleep so I woke up absolutely exhausted and on top of still having a cold I felt I better just stay home and rest or I won't have the energy to make dinner later. It's going to be 80 and sunny today and the next few days so I'll be going out tomorrow geocaching in NY then before my o.b. appointment tomorrow I'll stop for a few in PA.

This is an interesting finding, I wonder what exactly it is. I hope they will accept your daughter as blood donor, she would be upset if they refuse. Good luck for your glucose test.

@LadyDuck I wish I had more information on what is in the photo. Local history like that is very interesting to me. She weighed enough to donate blood. They pricked her finger to check her iron and said it was fine. She just got a letter in the mail that the feratin in her blood in too low so she can’t donate blood for 12 months. I’m not surprised. Being a vegetarian I’ve always been anemic too. She eats less greens then I do even. She does take a multivitamin but that was never enough for me either I have to take an iron supplement too.

@LadyDuck if you eat meat it's less common to be anemic. Im sorry to hear you are anemic as well. Some people just can't hold iron in their bodies well.

@shaggin We often know too little about local history, I also like to research. I am not vegetarian buy I have been anemic since I was a kid. I cannot eat most vegetables because I cannot digest them and I think that this is the reason why I am anemic.

@DianneN I did thanks! The doctor said usually people who fail the first test and pass the second tend to have 8 lb babies. Well I passed the first test with my daughter and she was 8 lbs 3 oz and did a lot of damage so I'm very worried how big this little girl may be. I'm officially bigger at just about 7 months with this one then I was when I delivered my first two . I'm so uncomfortable.

That is an interesting find. Last night on The Good Doctor they were discussing that test. I remember having it done back when I was expecting. I am sure it will go fine.

Sorry you have to redo the glocose test. I hated it the time I had to do it. Swore to never do it again. The stuff they gave me, wanted me to drink it in like five minutes. Yeah, no nearly vomited it up. I can't handle a lot in a short ammount of time that early in the morning.

@kaylachan you didn't do it for any following babies you were pregnant with? A friend of mine almost threw up too. Another girl on Facebook said she threw it up so then she had to do it again and take it with food. I hope I can keep it down!

@DaddyEvil a friend of mine is due a few weeks ahead of me. She is having her baby in NY whereas I chose Pa this time. She said where she goes they don't allow patients to leave the waiting room during the glucose test so I guess I'm lucky. They told me not to leave the building but I figured the parking garage being attached hopefully would count and no one yelled at me so

@Daddyevil I was so tired during the test from not having my morning tea or eating etc. I had to get blood drawn 4 times in three hours. After the second drawn I went and slept in my car between the 3rd and 4th. I passed the test though so no gestational diabetes!

@Courtlynn I don’t mind shots so much but I am terrified of getting my blood drawn. I’ve had to have it done so much this pregnancy I’m so sick of it. Hopefully I won’t need anymore. I could never lay there as long as it takes to donate blood yikes I’d pass out for sure. Just a quick draw I get all sweaty and light headed.

@Dena91 I passed the second glucose test thankfully. The girls did good giving blood but we got a letter in the mail about a week ago that my daughters ferratin levels in her blood are too low so she cannot donate for a year. Like me even with a multivitamin she is anemic. I didn't know until now though as when she was tested in the past she was fine. Her picky eating has gotten worse though.

@CarolDM yes it was at the school they donated blood. Each student is home one day a week doing virtual school and today was their day home. My daughter went over to my parents house and my niece and daughter walked up together!

@Marilynda1225 I passed the second glucose test thankfully! Geocaching is so fun I will miss doing it after the baby is born. But she will keep me plenty busy. The girls did great donating blood my about a week later she got a letter in the mail saying that her ferratin levels in her blood were too low so she cannot for her safety donate for one year. She's been even more pale since.
