The filing cabinet yields up its secrets

I’ve been going through files in the filing cabinet and getting rid of excess paper work. I found a ‘thank you’ note given to Vince by two brothers. He used to give these boys a ride to school occasionally. Part of the note was a PS which said ‘Mum told me to say something about her car being better than yours, but I can’t be bothered debating with her, so if she asks, please tell her something vague and ambiguous. I owe you one.’ I also threw out a merit certificate that the Chaplain had awarded him. The comment on that says ‘for knowing what to do with jumper leads’. He had obviously had to jump-start the Chaplain’s car at one time. I’m finding all sorts of interesting things. The photo shows what our mornings are looking like now we're moving towards winter.

That is a really kool shot. I wish I had trees that tall. Only a few weeks left before you move, you're really making progress.

I hate all this lockdown stuff, you'd think they'd simply let those who are too stupid not to protect themselves to simply get sick if that's what they want. I'm sure you're a lot like me and keep those masks handy when you are around strangers.

@rebelann Unfortunately the stupid ones are out there spreading it to the rest of us.

I think it is about three weeks now. We have lockdowns on and off at the moment. Movement is all a bit uncertain.

@JudyEv One of my grandsons has Down Syndrome and Autism. He can get a goofy sense of humor and be a cute little tease. I'm so glad the boys have done well in life.

They were funny boys. One was on the autistic spectrum and the other had cerebral palsy but they've done well in life.

@judyev That photo sounds like loud rolls of thunder, it smells of sulphur, and it looks like a jail break; yet it exudes a calmness, the kind of calmness that falls on decent company when the hostess pour a cup of amber coloured tea from a fine bone china teapot. I hope there are some Empire biscuits to go with it.

I have no idea what Empire biscuits are but I've just had home-made lemon slice which is pretty delicious if I do say so myself.

@JudyEv I have the same, those boxes followed me during almost 50 years, I do not think I could get rid of them, not all of them at least.

I have three boxfuls of cards of various kinds - Christmas, birthday, Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day. I am steeling myself to go through them and get rid of at least some of them.

@LadyDuck I guess if I just keep them, the boys will throw them out without a second thought. Maybe that's the best way.

I was worried that was smoke in your photo. Glad to know it's not! You're excavating in "forgotten" memories. I kinda feel sorry for the first guy... My mom used to want me to do stuff like that, too. *shake my head*

@JudyEv I didn't get to have that kind of fun when we were moving. I was working while Pretty went through everything in our garage and threw most of it away.

@JudyEv Yes and no... I was working a lot of overtime while she went through out stuff. She wasn't looking very carefully all the time, though. A few years ago the US Mints offered collectable state quarters, so I invested in two sets of them. One set I put into a display that hangs on the wall between our bedrooms. The other set I put into the garage to keep them safe. (Not long after I received the sets I got a letter from the mint telling me that I'd received one quarter in each set worth $1,500 USD so should insure them for that. I didn't.) When Pretty went through things, the second set of state quarters got loaded into the truck for donations. I still haven't told her what she gave away.

@DaddyEvil Lucky you! I'm doing most of the 'going through stuff' here but every now and then I call Vince to look through a pile of paper in case he wants something saved from it.

We have accounts and receipts going back quite a few years so some of those are being destroyed. It's all less to cart to the next place.

Your photo is really beautiful! Of course, the scene that you saw in the morning is amazing! Reading about "filing cabinet" & "paper work", I can still see this to-do task keep bugging me. There are still lots of papers waiting for me to clean up - my three kids enjoy writing/drawing/scribbling on the papers. Though sometimes I am quite irritated by piles of papers, they always bring sweet memories too.
