Oh snap! Another crime only half a block from my house.

As I was driving to my drug dealer's place to discuss sports and score some wine for this afternoon, I spied a shattered driver's side window only half a block from my house. Was the "victim" a jerk who had squished the perp's car in during parallel parking? Did the perp steal something from the victim? I don't know.
For the record, my drug dealer is Raj, a dude who I always talk baseball and cricket with when I "score." As I bought my wine, someone on his in-store TV hit a cricket "home run." "Six runs" I thought." "Six runs" he said as I approached the counter. I was slightly insulted. Do Indians think Americans are idiots?
Anyway, I lost my fashion wear a couple of weeks ago. My favorite green hat and matching green sweatshirt were taken from my car in our apartment complex parking lot. I had left the car (actually a truck with Montana plates) unlocked. No windows were smashed and my favorite $12 sunglasses were spared. I hope the thief is both warm and fashionable.
But it worries me when crime occurs only half a block from my house. When peaceful protesters stole everything from a Best Buy one long block away from my house, I made sure I locked my truck. But I have slacked off recently.
Are you insulated from crime where you live?

I reported a young man for blasting the neighborhood with loud speakers. I politely tried to ask him to stop, but he wouldn't. The police told him, 'Hey, turn the darn music down!' Two days later, I had hot dripping bubble gum, stuffed into the key-hole of my driver's door!

@TheHorse The cop left the kid's home and parked in my driveway, it was made obvious who called the cops!

One of my coworkers went outside a few nights ago to let her dog pee, and surprised some thieves who were trying to steal the catalytic converter from her car! They already had her car up on jacks -- a couple of minutes later, and it would have been too late! This wasn't a rough neighborhood either. I don't know that any place is immune.

@spiderdust I think I've even heard of that. I wax a bit conservative when I hear about stuff like that. If you catch someone red-handed, you should be allowed to shoot them, but only below the waist. Any shot above the waist should lead to a $25 fine. Heh. Redneck Horse has spoken.

@TheHorse Other than yelling "HEY!" and scaring them off? She told all of her neighbors and is thinking about installing Ring or some other home surveillance system. Theft of catalytic converters off of people's cars is apparently an issue in San Jose.

My father is reaching moderate dementia stage. I have calmed down. I realize it is his inability to accept his state. Yes, he forgets a lot, and I am not faring much better. But there is not a lot of stealing happening around here. East or west, India is the best. But you know that already. What you don't know is whether Indians think Americans are idiots...keep you guessing. Evil grin.

Well, kind of. It's quiet where I live, but on the other side of sixth street on the other hand is a bit more "dangerous" neighborhood. And, the biggest crime of all, people treating stop signs like suggestions. Then there was the guy who stole a car and decided to drive it through my neighbor's fence. My neighbor who's across the street and one house over. So.... that happened.
