It's beautiful. Not exactly where I live but they grow on some gardens around town

That answers my general question. I did not know how far they spread in the world. I thought perhaps they would not handle warmer temperatures. Thanks.

@GardenGerty Yes - they live only about a 10-15 minutes drive away. But the difference is my dad has a very green thumb (he was a gardener by occupation) and I have only a sort of green one .

I do not do anything special for them, just give them a bit of ground.

So beautiful! I ride the bus. There's a dialysis center with busstop right in front of them. In their taylored garden, about half dozen purple iris growing. I live at, Oahu, Hawaii.

So that lets me know that they grow in tropical areas. I imagine there are many beautiful gardens where you are.

They may not grow where you are as they need a cool winter I think.

I am not surprised. Your weather and my weather seems to be similar.

@GardenGerty I have the feeling that our weather is similar. This is the second warm morning, my tomatoes are now happy in the garden.

It is. I like the dark, vibrant colors in iris.

You will have fun seeing the surprises. So now I know they are in Kenya, Australia, Canada, continental US, Hawaii. Wide ranging beauties.

@GardenGerty They certainly seem to be a universal plant.

It is a very pretty flower. Where does she live in Minnesota? I was born in Minneapolis. I do not grow anything so am not familiar if they grow here or not?

@Hannihar She lived in a suburb called Brooklyn Center. Also some other suburbs that I forget. She moved there in 2005.

My daughter has moved out of the Minneapolis area less than a year ago. She is a bit further north. I have never been to her new place.

They seem to handle the cooler temperatures well. I wonder about more tropical places, though.

Oh that's lovely!
We do grow them, but I am doing badly at the moment. Little One decided they are (one of) her favourite flowers and she wanted us to create an iris rainbow. I ordered some by mail but then the weather was very cold so I didn't plant them right away. I think I waited too long, because the bits of rhizome looked very dried up and haven't shown any signs of life yet.

I find them to be very forgiving. Maybe these will surprise you. They do come in enough colors to create a rainbow.
