Still Here, Just Busy

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind for me. Three weeks ago I played in my first national paintball tournament since recovering from Covid. I was winded throughout the day and tired easily, but I held up well and our team powered its way to a third place finish. Not too shabby.
Last weekend my daughter graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Psychology. She is a dual major, and in the fall will resume classes for her second degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Eventually she hopes to earn her Masters in Speech Therapy. It was miserably hot and humid on graduation weekend, plus crowded with thousands of graduates and their families, so we opted not to do photo shoots until later. It is nice and cool and sunny this morning so we plan to go around campus and take a few photos in her cap and gown.
Next weekend there is another paintball tournament, then the following weekend I’ll be at Disney celebrating my birthday, and then the weekend after that will be my son’s high school graduation.
I’m going to need a vacation after all that!
Photo is me out of the safe protection of a bunker providing cover fire so that my teammate (you can see the tip of his gun to the left) can advance up the field. If you look closely by my knees you can see paintballs splattering as they hit the ground in front of me. How I didn’t get shot being out in the open like that is beyond me. I guess it was pure luck.

Wow! You certainly have been and will be busy. Congratulations on the paintball tournament and congratulations to your daughter. That's quite an accomplishment. Good luck at the next tournament. Disney and your birthday is a perfect combination for you. Great photo. Have a good weekend.

Usually I spend my birthday weekends either up in the Big Apple, or playing in paintball tournaments. This will be a first for me going to Disney on my birthday.

I can’t believe how fast time has flown either. She and I were talking about that as we walked around campus taking graduation photos. It seems like just yesterday I was a graduate from UF.
I’ve noticed you haven’t been as active here lately. I figured you have been very busy with other things in your life.

Yes, spring has kept me extra busy outside and so have the grandkids. Went to Chicago two weeks ago to watch my grandson in a hockey championship. Went to our son’s home in NJ to see the ice princess pass her figure skating level, and went to Syracuse for more hockey. Then Mother’s Day here. And planting lots of veggies and flowers. And shopping.

I’m very proud of all the accomplishments of both of my children. I’ve always encouraged them to follow their passions, and it looks like that is exactly what they’re both doing.

@Juliaacv Thank you. I have always tried to raise them with the understanding that the ways of the world are not necessarily the right ways to live life (greed, money, material possessions, hatred, bigotry, etc).

Thankfully, she’s been on full scholarship the entire time she’s been in college, so my savings account is still intact for now. However, she’ll be on the hook for grad school tuition, so unfortunately that’s when dad’s wallet will start thinning out.

My daughter seems to have her future planned out very well. My son is still trying to figure it all out. But then again, so am I. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

@moffittjc That is good news. I'm back to quarantine to keep safe. My son-in-law had to test before leaving for work again and he was positive. They've had fatigue, slight breathing issues and slight headaches but that's all. With our antibodies, it seems to be helping keep it less this time. He came back from work in Iraq after testing negative to fly home but landed in two different airports to change. He's been home all this time since so had to be from that. I only been up there once right after he landed but was not near him so hopefully I will stay without getting it again. I have had a headache a couple days and fatigue but nothing feels like being sick. Just loss of sleep.

GoSports televises many of our tournaments, and Twitch will stream some of them as well. I believe both are subscription services.
