Only About 0ne-third of Costco Shoppers Wore Masks

Eugene, Oregon
May 16, 2021 2:42pm CST
For those who don't know, Costco is a big box discount store in the US. The place gets crowded. I needed to go there this Sunday morning to get something mu wife needed. I was curious about the mask policy, since the CDC's confusing announcement yesterday. Well, it is a free for all apparently, as I suspected. There were lots of people in the store and no mask policy was posted. One woman going in at about the time I did, asked the door person for a mask as she had forgotten hers. She was given a mask, but merrily told that she did not have wear it really. The woman donned the mask and said thank you. It was strange, after all this time, coming face to face with so many naked-faced people. I guess it will be that way all the time unless new Covid cases rise sharply.

@jameshxstatic So strange to be in a shop with other people not wearing masks. I saw one lady today maskless and was quite shocked and couldn’t stop staring. It was as if she’d forgotten to put on any clothes at all. I’ll not be baring all for quite a while yet - I’m too bashful.

I'll still don mine when I shop in any store, I don't trust all those people who claim they just have allergies.

That vaccine doesn't seem to work all that well, there've been more than a few cases where people who are vaccinated got covid anyway.

I do have allergies, but take meds so I don't sneeze too much. People are supposed to already be vaccinated before they go out to expose others, but there is no way of knowing.

@rhttps://slate.com/technology/2021/04/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-infections-cdc-data.htmlebelann But the percentage of vaccinated that get it https://slate.com/technology/2021/04/covid-19-vaccine-breakthrough-infections-cdc-data.htmlis about ..0075. I was surprised to read this. It made me feel better.

There were always maskless people out and about during the height of the pandemic. Businesses do have the right to make their own mask decisions. I will certainly wear a mask.

@DianneN Yes, but I feel better after reading an NPR article that the rate of infection after vaccine is .0075.

There were very few unmasked people locally and businesses were enforcing the rules

@JamesHxstatic That’s good. I’ve been cautious during the entire pandemic and refuse to get careless now. I am fully vaccinated, but there’s always that percentage.........

You are right friend. The few times that I leave the house, I observe the people who wear the mask and those who do not, and I have observed that a little more than a third of the people do not use the mask, I have even entered establishments where they have large signs that say things like: "You will not be seen if you do not wear the mask" and the people who attend do not use it. It's crazy.

It is so unfortunate that people grow careless while the virus is still so active.
