The nice neighbor wasn't nice at all

Some years ago a Danish police officer had an idea. He wanted to set fire to his house in order to get money from the insurance, but didn’t want them to know what really happened. He decided to burn down some of the other houses in his neighborhood before starting a fire in his own house He also decided to become a burglar. He stole things from his neighbors’ houses and he damaged some of the things he didn’t steal. It was all part of his plan. He wanted his coworkers to think that a gang was committing crime in the area, and he pretended to be sad and angry when his house burned down. One day he stole some expensive figurines from his neighbor’s house. Afterwards his neighbor was very sad. He told her: ”Don’t worry. I may be able to help you” A few days later he visited her home and he told her that he managed to find some figurines which looked just like the ones she had lost and he was willing to sell them to her. She was happy and grateful, and a few minutes later she had bought her OWN figurines which he had stolen from her house! Eventually the policeman was caught, and the neighbors were shocked when the truth was revealed. No one thought that he was involved and the neighbors were happy that he lived in their area. They found him nice and friendly, and he made them feel safe. They couldn’t have been more wrong.

@LadyDuck It definitely must have been a shocking experience. For a long time he managed to hide who he really was and he pretended to be a nice and helpful neighbor.

Exactly what I thought when I read the story on a local news site. They all thought he was so nice and helpful, but the truth was very different. I am also glad that he was caught.

Sometimes it's the one's you least expect who commit the crimes. Detectives are very good at there job and most times find the clues to connect the crime with the perpetrator.

That is true. He managed to hide the truth for a while and he pretented to help his coworkers solve the crime, but eventually they discovered what really happened.

Yes, it is. No one thought that he was involved in the crimes and people trusted him, but at least he was caught in the end and he is in prison now.

These days we cannot trust anyone. A policeman can also do such thing. Why he wanted to burn his house, just for money or something else? Wasn't his salary enough for him?

I think he just wanted the money, and at first the insurance company didn't realize that he started the fire himself. At first his plan worked, but fortunately he was caught eventually.
