Found a New Farm to Visit

Took a ride today for a change in atmosphere for awhile. Found a new organic farm nearby that opened recently. Very cool to see these three bison greet us at the gate. The owners moved from Oklahoma to settle here in Tennessee. They were amazed at the high price of land, compared to Oklahoma. They were able to buy about half of the land they owned in Oklahoma. Lots of fresh organic veggies coming soon. Over a dozen types of tomatoes, lettuce, kale, all kinds of greens, corn, watermelon. In the store he had all local owned merchandise for sale. So cool to see a store like this that sells for the little guy. The local grown merchandise, and all kinds of frames and planters, all hand made. I was impressed. They will also have bison meat for sale soon. But not the three bison in the photo. He sad they all have names, and the others have numbers. I hope he is right. Photo is mine.

@Belexhanns Yes they are cattle. Here is link that talks about them. They are huge animals. Many will eat this instead of hamburger. And some, like these are kept in a fenced area, like horses or cows.

Who could kill a kritter that has been named? Looks like soon you'll be able to get all you need from this one farmer.

I know of many that have actually. But this farm has a separate field for the numbered animals. I hope so, they also put on benefits for people in the neighborhood with live music.

How cool! I've seen bison up close once in my life. Their heads are so big! I'm glad these three have names and won't be turned into burgers.

@CarolDM The only thing I don't like is that they have an unpleasant smell, that's what I remember the most.

There is a farm something like that close to here...but haven't made a connection there. The next county down has a co op where they sell local food, but here we just have a Farmer's Market.

Most people won't kill the animals that have names. Dad didn't let us name anything he was raising for us to eat.

I have not tried bison meat as of yet, its hard to get here and as a result very costly. I know that it is lower in fat then beef. You will have to try it and let me know how you enjoy it.
