Update 6/5/21

Thursday I had my semi-annual eye doctor appointment. This was the long one (one hour and 15 minutes) in which I get all kinds of eye tests including a visual field test for my glaucoma. Everything went well. After the appointment we went out to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse courtesy of the gift card that I had earned! :-) I had chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, ranch dressing, Brussels sprouts and a salad...oh, and their special bread. My chicken tenders were overdone; and the coating on the chicken could have broken a tooth. The manager came over and asked how our dinner was. When I told him, he immediately whisked my food away and had the kitchen remake my dinner. I had a whole new dinner to take home. Very good customer service. I called the Council on Aging a while back; and now we are set up to receive Meals on Wheels. Sooooo, 5 days a week we will receive healthy, home cooked meals. No more relying on soup, yogurt and protein bars for me! I will let you know how they are. Bad news on the other house front: I knew that the house had cracks in the foundation which were letting in water; and I knew that the foundation was possibly starting to sink; BUT a manager came out from Ohio State Waterproofing and gave us the bad news. We have major foundation issues and major water issues to the tune of $20,000. The waterproofing that we had done in the basement by B-Dry has to be torn out and redone in another way. We have mold growing everywhere and water trapped in the walls AND the foundation is failing. After much discussion, we are getting the job done. We don't have much chance to sell the house "as is" for much, even if we sell to a flipper/cash buyer. They will be doing the basement, the room off of the garage and the garage. When it rains, it pours. So what's going on in your life? Better things I hope! Have a good weekend; and stay happy, healthy and safe! Photo Credit: In an email from a friend

You know it! We should have sold it 10 years ago when I wanted to...or 16 years ago right after we moved out. We've put in more money than we ever made with rent. One positive note -- the puppies are cute! How are you feeling?

I had no idea you had glaucoma. . At least you go out for a treat, but that’s one reason I never eat at chain restaurants. You were right to complain. That’s great that you can have Meals on Wheels. Ohm yikes! So sorry about the house, but you need to do whatever is necessary. Hopefully, you will get your money back. Things are great here, but so very busy right now. All good, but beyond crazy.

The glaucoma is under control. I use drops every day which keep the eye pressure down and protect my eyesight.

Glad you spoke up about your ruined dinner and that they redid it for you. I should have done it that time when my burger was overdone and burned. Yikes about the house. That's a whole lot of money to have to spend on repairs. Bet you didn't see that coming.

I had my suspicions; but I didn't know it was so bad. We've put tens of thousands of dollars into that house.

These foundation issues are a nightmare, that all home owners fear. We had moisture problems too, but our home's foundation is still dry, firm and strong.

@LindaOHio The first thing Jay examined was the foundation, before we bought this home.

@kobesbuddy The foundation was fine in 1978 when we bought it. At that time the house was about 25 years old. Now it's over 60 years old.

I get those exams too. I do not have glaucoma but am a candidate to develop it. That is awful about the basement.

Oh no! It sounds like the foundation has sunk in to the ground because of all this! And eek, what a waste of the B-Dry guy if it's having to be redone. I feel like having all that done, and being able to note it to potential buyers will (hopefully) be a good selling point. Glad the manager fixed the meal.

I'm glad everything went well at the eye doctors. They do have great customer service. I am been thinking of starting Meals on Wheels I would be interested in how it works for you. So sorry to hear about your house problems. It can be a pain to fix it up to sell. We are in the middle of doing so to our house. Good luck.

@thelme55 Me too! We had 2 Pomeranians that we had to surrender because one kept getting out of the fenced-in yard.
