Sunday is a special day to celebrate for those who love the benefits of gardening. It's a chance to not only tend to your garden, but grab some exercise without visiting the gym. Yes, because today is National Gardening Exercise Day!
Gardening is a way to stretch out and build up those muscles, and burn off a few calories in the process. I actually got a head start on my celebration yesterday by edging around my garden area. On Sunday, I will continue the sprucing up process by pulling some weeds, trimming my bushes, and replanting a few flowers. With another sunny day in the weather forecast for my state I'm going to "party hardy" in my yard, take in some fresh air and sunshine, and reap the benefits of some healthy outdoor exercise. Whose going to join me?
If you garden and do your own yard work what benefits do you gain from doing it yourself? Do you have any special way or tips for preparing your garden?
One benefit of gardening for me is the accomplishment of growing plants and watching them come up each year. Kind of like raising and taking care of your children. You want those plants and flowers to be a success.

@dgobucks226 I seeded the tomatoes inside and I kept the young plants in a small greenhouse on the balcony until the end of April. I used the same soil and the same size of pots, three plants grew up a lot more than the others. I moved them to larger pots and brought inside because they did not fit anymore in the greenhouse. I think the plants are like people, some grow bigger and healthier.

How true Anna! A benefit I never thought about
Yes, I have a few tomatoes coming in now. We've had a rain mixed in with some hot sunny days. Maybe that's helping the process? Do you use any special planting soil for your tomato crop? Any tips you recommend?

The best part of growing tomatoes is eating them
Another benefit I get from gardening is relaxation. I find it a stress reliever as I get lost in the process.
Growing some tomatoes might do the same for you.

@dgobucks226 Now that my deck is finished I'm thinking of growing them in pots. I don't have a yard for gardening but I've seen fellow myLotters having great success with growing in pots. Nothing beats fresh homegrown tomatoes.

Being out in the sunshine is definitely a plus along with the exercise from moving around, bending and using muscles you may not frequently use.

I never was into gardening. Too much weeding. Now we're just too old to partake in all that bending and stretching.

Very true! You must get it started before those hazy, hot and humid days arrive in abundance.

I grow both. Starting to see the beginnings of some tomatoes coming in. Can't wait to eat them!
One thing I always do is make sure to use mulch after raking, planting and adding new topsoil in preparing my garden each year.

Growing your own fruit and veggies is a good money saver and they taste better than store bought!

I do not garden at this time DB. I basically do not have a garden and not sure if I am even staying here so not potted plants.
I had no idea there was a gardening exercise day.
But for sure, when I used to have a garden it was great mental comfort to me to be out there working in it.

Absolutely OT! It's a day worth celebrating. Especially when those flowers bloom and those tomatoes ripen
Thanks for responding

Absolutely Marlina! It's getting harder for me to bend each year especially my knees but I'm going to continue as long as I can. Hopefully, I've got a few more years of enjoying my tomato crop

I went to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania in winter. The flower displays in their greenhouses were magnificent!
Here's a photo of how they decorate the trees with lights for Christmas. Awesome

@dgobucks226 It is due to lack of yard. I have only balcony to have plants here. It is indeed a stress reliever. Have a nice Tuesday.

Is that due to the climate in Germany Thelma? I do find gardening to be relaxing. I find it a stress reliever as I get lost in the process.
