A Surprise Telephone Call (A Scam )

I am sitting here myLotting. past lunchtime, waiting for Anne to call for me to pick her up from the cancer clinic where her "one hour" treatment started two hours ago. I figured it would be longer, but she was confident.
So the phone did ring and some guy trying hard to speak English, said he was an "officer" from the Social Security Administration and that I had better call him on the number he was giving me as I disconnected the call.
Social Security in the US is the part of the government that pays people over 65 when they retire. They are paying us all the money we out into the system as we worked for all those years.
They do not make phone calls to tell us about problems. If I had returned the call, this bozo would have told me that my account is frozen and that I had better give him all my info to prove who I am. It is an old scam, but ,they keep trying it and, sad to say, it works with some people who end up losing money to these crooks. I blocked the number too.
Anne still hasn't called, so I had better eat lunch..

I get social security disability because of my father dying after I turned 18. Today I got the same robotic scam. I blocked and hung up on the number, too. Then a little less then an hour ago, scammers called me, didn't realize I'd picked up, and were speaking to each other in Hendi I think. Some scammers are real smart, but many aren't. What a shame.

Always good to get a stupid one though, so easy to spot.

@JamesHxstatic I have ti think that some people fall in their trap or they will stop spamming.

It used to happen more often and sounded more authentic. This one was so obvious it was almost funny.

I'm getting more and more spam calls every day. It's driving me crazy. Hope Anne did okay with her treatment.

You did the right thing my friend. Scammers are there to scam people but we must not give them that chance.
Enjoy your lunch and have a nice day

This is why I rarely answer the phone unless I am pretty sure I know who is calling..if it is important they can leave a message, and scammers rarely do.

We get that same call all the time. Plus other scams we block all those numbers to.

I do not pick up unknown numbers. If it's important, they will leave a message.
I'll sometimes search the number for scam reports but never answer their calls.

@JamesHxstatic They've been doing it often. I read it in the news. Some people who are scammed are really intelligent. These scammers can be very good at what they do.

Those scammers never stop trying. I've had similar type calls. I actually called the number back and said I was going to report him. They are not even good at it, broken English, noise in the background like they are calling from a house, really lame.

Truly, they are just fishing for people who don't know better.
