Got a Bell Collar for Brendel

But it didn't last long. As you can see from the photos, I put the collar on. Only 2-3 minutes later, she had it off. I need to get a better one I suppose. She has never worn a collar, so this was different for her. Being indoor only cats, I never put a collar on either cat. But since her hearing is gone, I think a bell collar is a good idea. The Dude and I can keep up with her. I will go in search again for a better one. In the top photo, you can see the tiny bell around her neck. The other photo shows it on the floor, and the Dude's ears checking it out. Now it has become a toy for them. Got a few things done while out running errands. A few sprinkles and lots of clouds. Always glad to be back home.

Brendel has already made up her mind, 'No bells and whistles, for me!' If I change anything at all, Kobe has a fit! He refuses to kiss my hand, for an entire day!

It is surely not because she does not like the sound, she is deaf. I agree that a bell collar is a good idea, but she does not seem to agree.

@CarolDM Cats are creatures of habits, if she never wore a collar, she surely does not like just because it is "different".

She has never worn a collar, I understand anything different they do not like.

Hopefully you will find another collar with a bell on it that she will tolerate wearing. I know that Ellie prefers going without a collar, but she knows as soon as she wants to go outside into the yard, she has to don a collar or she stays inside.

@CarolDM Do you crochet? You could consider making one from wool, it would be nice and light, all except for the bell, and if it attached with velcro, it would be easy on and off.

I had breakaway collars on my 2 inside/outside cats back at the house. They would lose them within a day or two so I gave up. Eventually I bought a GPS tracker for my old man cat who would go wandering--sometimes for days. It was like $250 (plus monthly/yearly subscription) so I needed a collar that wouldn't come off. I wound up getting a small or extra small dog collar that wasn't breakaway. I attached the tracker to that and the little creep never got it off.

I am not paying that much. I just need to keep up with her inside.

@CarolDM The collar was cheap. It was just a small dog dollar from PetSmart. It was the tracker that was so expensive. I didn't want him to lose the collar AND the tracker. I didn't know any better when I got him as a kitten so I thought it was normal to have an inside/outside cat like I had always grown up with. He wouldn't use a litter box so I had to let him out. Some days he would just lay on a patio chair and enjoy the sun. Other days he would hop the fence and we wouldn't see him for a couple of days. The neighbors all knew him. All of my cats since him and my old lady cat (who has passed) have been indoor-only. No need for a tracker!

@NJChicaa That makes sense. I would use the tracker if she was outside.

By CarolDM @CarolDM She really did not like it so got it off as soon as she could I do not believe another collar will work because she does not want anything on her. I hops you can find the right collar with a bell for her.

If you put a collar on a cat who's never worn one, they tend to take it off. So the idea is to get them used to it. You also want to make sure you use a break away type in the event it gets snagged on something.

I hope she takes to a collar. I tried to put a collar on my Siamese Beau Teak and the fireworks flew. Mr. Calm Boy turned into Mr. Nasty Man. He had a fit until he got that beastly collar off.

I tried once when Buttons was a kitten to put a collar on her but like Brendel she had it off in a couple minutes. I never tried again. I hope she is feeling better today. We had more rain this afternoon with some thunder mixed in.
