Photos Are A Challenge Now

The tree swallow babies turned 12 days old today. The parents will not allow me to get very close these days. And that is ok. I know they are being taken care of. The parents are constantly feeding them and they are growing every day. You can see from this photo I snapped today, three are at the entrance of the door. There are two more inside as well. Soon they will fly away. About one more week. If you look close, you can see their eyes are open too. I would love to see their feathers, but I cannot risk trying to open the door. They could fall out of the nest. So, I watch from a distance. And I can hear them when they get fed, making all kinds of noise. A chart I follow tells me at 12 days old, they are about the same weight as the parents. Hard to believe. I know it is getting crowded in that house. They have vents on each side for air. The parents are circling me from above, so I am quick to get the photos and leave. I can see the little beaks from the window I am at while on the computer. They will be missed when they leave. I hope they will be safe.

I had a beautiful Mexican bird house hanging on the front of the house but no birds ever decided to inhabit it. It was okay. It still was so pretty.

These have to be a certain size and openings, etc for birds to nest. Except for wrens. They will nest anywhere.

@CarolDM I don't know anything about outside birds. Ask me about parrots though and I can talk your head off.

I will miss these little guys. When they leave, they don't retune from what I have read. But you never know.

I'm sure they will be, missed and safe. Birds have been building nests and having babies longer than we've been alive.

Hope they are safe unless they get a prey of anyone. So we will be missing their pics once they will fly off their own

You are so kind. I was out in the steaming sun, could barely see, the parents were circling my head, and I snapped this. They are such cuties.

Thanks! And I do as well. I have had bluebirds in this house each year for 12 years. This is the first time other birds have nested. Maybe the bluebirds will return next year.
