How Many Years Difference is There Between You and Your Spouse or Significant Other?

United States

I am just curious about this because my husband is the love of my life, and there is a 26 year age difference between us! Many people are surprised by that and sometimes when we go places, people think I am his daughter! It is not our first marriage, and we each have 3 grown children. We have been happily married for 11 years. So, how many years difference between you and your special person?

Wow, that's wonderful Congratulations to you. My husband and I will never make it to that 50th anniversary, but I am grateful for the time we do have together.

@LadyDuck The fact that you have stayed together for all that time after marrying young says a lot about your commitment to each other!

@Kouponkaren It definitely is, although it seems more common these days. My wife's cousin was older than her husband and my sister is older than hers. A trend perhaps? lol

Good for you. It's more unusual for the woman to be older, but I say whatever makes you happy.

There is only a 6 months age difference between me and my husband. I’m older because I was born in October of 88 and he was born in April of 89. Usually when people see it’s either the fact we are a biracial couple or the fact that he looks older then me and I’m younger or the nanny or something.

@Kouponkaren yep looks can make you look older or younger. My husband looks so much younger when he doesn’t have facial hair. So he keeps facial hair on his face so he doesn’t look so young at work.

Ha, "the nanny". That's cute. Some people just have an older or younger look to them.

@ShyBear88 Ah, that's a good idea. Do you like his facial hair? Some wives don't.

Years shouldn’t make a difference if you are happy. We have a 3 1/2 year age difference and people think I’m my husband’s daughter.

Well, honestly, my husband and I knew each other many years ago, and reconnected again and fell in love. And I have known a lot of people that that has happened to. So maybe think back in your life to see if there is someone you cared about at one time in your earlier life, and you broke up, or lost contact, and see what they are up to know. There is a book written about couples that this has happened to. It's called, "My Boyfriend's Back" and it was really fun to read about other couples who lost touch with someone in their past and reunited and fell in love. Good luck to you. I hope you find someone soon.

I married a man 7 years older than me when I was very young. Many decades later, I had a friend 20 years older than myself. I did not marry him nor was interested in doing so. I still consider my late husband the love of my life.

@marguicha Aw, that is very sweet. My husband now is the love of my life and I don't think I will ever remarry if he goes first.

@Kouponkaren I think it mostly depends on their attitude and also how they were raised.

@wolfgirl569 I think older men treat their spouse/significant other better than men my age. Of course it could just be my own personal experience but my first husband was the same age as me, and he didn't respect women very much.

Five years and six months. That was about the norm in my younger days. Love matters more than anything else in a relationship. Happy for you.
