Morning visitor

I was up early this morning and when I looked out of the kitchen window I saw this neighbour having a good look around the garden. I grabbed the camera to try and get a shot but they were darting here and there so quickly it was difficult to capture a good one. This was the best I could do. There’s no doubt various neighbours visit us but we rarely see them so I was quite excited to capture this shot. It made up for being up so early! And by the way that big heap of sub-soil is the result of our new pond project! We need to get rid of it all soon but that's a lot of wheelbarrows-full. Oh, nice... I bet he considers that part of his yard and wondered why someone was making a mess in his yard. I hope the pond turns out nice. (Good pic!)

@Fleura As long as you're enjoying making it, that's what counts.

The pond is turning out to be a very long-term project!

@DaddyEvil I'm not sure 'enjoying' is the right word! The ground is practically solid clay so when the weather is dry, it's rock hard like trying to dig concrete, and when the weather is wet it's like thick glue - you stick your shovel in and pull it out with a massive lump of clay stuck to it which you can't get off, and that's practically it! And you're walking around with several inches of clay stuck on your boots like weird platform soles... We have to wait for the 'Goldilocks conditions' when it's just moist enough to be workable. We started it in August last year!

That really is a great view. You must have a big yard.

@Aquitaine24 Yes we do have quite a large garden, that's why we moved here. It's not easy to find around here nowadays.

Good capture! They move so spritely. My son’s image was a bit blurry. Looks so pretty there despite the pile!

@DianneN It's not just that they can trot quickly, but they can dart here and there so incredibly fast they would be impossible to catch!

@Fleura I agree. I watched one trot down our street. He was going faster than I in my car!

A great photo. The last one I saw here was when the baby rabbits were in the yard.

That's not a good time to see a fox! Were they safe?

@Fleura Yes they were safe. They did not cross my fence.
Sharing a photo that really scared me to see from my new trail camera. This is a Fox. One of the biggest predators for small animals. And baby...

That is a pretty animal, and a nice picturesque habitat for it to roam.

A fox! I like them I have seen some here too, it is interesting to watch the visitors early in the morning. I am seriously thinking to fill the pond with dirt, I have enough to clean it.

I know there are foxes around here, but I don't often see any. And so far they have not managed to eat my chickens

I do have chickens - so far none lost to foxes in the 8 or so years we've had them (unlike every other chicken keeper I know of!). I've been pretty careful not to allow them out too early and always shut them in at dusk and so far that seems to have worked. I know there are foxes around and have seen them in the garden now and then - one eventful morning an excited young fox actually jumped on top of the chicken run only a few yards from our door! It was so incredibly fast, the chickens wouldn't have stood a chance even though we were so near if the 'fox-resistant' steel mesh hadn't proved its worth!

You're right about it being a lot of barrowsful!! How many foxes were there? You mentioned 'they' so I'm presuming there was more than one.

No there was just the one. I was just using 'they' in the 'I don't know if it was a he or a she' sense.
