Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, Western Australia

Our sister-in-law was buried in Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park on Saturday. The Park is often touted as the most environmentally responsible cemetery in Australia. It has been developed and maintained as natural bushland and is planted only with native species. There is a chapel and a number of areas for graves. There are no monuments but each grave is marked by a flat bronze plaque. The area is a haven for many native animals and we saw a great many kangaroos resting and feeding on the green areas. Once people leave a new grave, the kangaroos move in to eat the flowers so now a wire cage is placed over new graves and removed after a few days. Kerry loved the bush and is buried quite close to her grandson who died of a brain tumour when he was seven. I'm sure she would approve of her final resting place.

It is a totally restful area with lots of trees and small avenues of vegetation in between plots of graves.

What a beautiful and restful area. I am sure she would have approved the choice of this place. The roo seems interested by those shovels.

If I could I'd have my body shipped there but I doubt anyone I know would understand my reasoning.

Pinnaroo with its trees and roos, is the ideal resting place for my sister-in-law. The area is also full of wildflowers in the spring.

Thanks for the kind words. I am used to kangaroos but even I was surprised by the number we saw. Every patch of grass we passed by had an equal number of 'roos.
