What does One do with One Cherry Tomato?

So excited to see the first getting-red cherry tomato! But I doubt the others will ripen in time to use in a shish-kebab or salad. Hubs and I will each have half I guess. Gorgeous sunny and temperate day here. Hubs and I were playing 18 holes of golf with friends this morning, when he remembered the cable guy was coming between 8 and 5 today! We left during the 11th hole and rushed home. The cable guy had just pulled into our driveway and had been calling our landline. Timing is everything except with the cable company. Now our whole house WiFi is working perfectly. The cable line had to be replaced thanks to the squirrels chewing through them!

Make you a teeny tiny salad with your one tomato. Has been a beautiful day here as well. Good the wifi is working again.

What a novel idea! Thanks, who knew the squirrels would do that and not get electrocuted. If it’s not the deer, it’s the squirrels. So frustrating when the cable went wonky. Glad you had a beautiful day, too!

@DianneN Your tomatoes are looking really good. Squirrels are little varmints for sure. Thanks.

You should feed those squirrels and you would not have that problem. They can not go to 7/11.

The problems with wires running through houses and the possibility of rodents chewing makes the case of wireless better. Yet even wireless devices do not give as much speed as Fibre Broadband I am still managing without Fibre broadband but might need one in future. As for the Tomatoes, would your other tomatoes take a lot of time to ripen?

I don’t understand much about cable, but at least everything is working well again. This tomato ripened very early. They should all ripen in the next two weeks.

Squerrels are beautiful, but harmful. When I come across a single tomato, I wash it and eat it.

My dad gave us one of his cherry tomato plants last month . . . there were already lots of little green ones when we got it. It's been really hot here, so quite a few have been ripening . . . my son harvested 4 of them the other day and there might be more by the end of the week. The thing is only me and my son will eat them. Ohhh, naughty squirrels but glad that was fixed!

@DianneN We only have this one plant. But I think it thrives only because my dad repotted this and did up the soil correctly. My parents grow tomatoes every year, but I have never grown them before. Wow, they last that long?? I need to read up on proper care . Enjoy your harvests! Squirrels . They chewed wires here before too . . . here, we would wake up to early morning chewing sounds because it was right outside our bedroom. I think they installed some kind of hard guard there to stop them.

Lucky you and your son! Ours shouldn’t be ready until mid-July, but the weather has been good. I have two more and two large tomato plants. If I don’t kill them first, we will be eating them through September and into October. Enjoy every mouthful! I thought of you as soon as the cable guy mentioned squirrels.

@much2say Water and fertilizer are key. Some, like my Big Boy, mature later in the season. Enjoy your harvest, too! So much fun! Wow! You and I certainly have squirrel problems. Ours chewed in the middle, mostly. They use the cable as a high wire act and a snack.

I do not know why, but every year I am excited when I see the first tomato ripe to pick up. I picked up several zebra tomatoes and some cherries yesterday, we had them for lunch with grilled cheese.

I'd probably refrigerate the one tomato, until a couple more ripen in a day or two:) Those darn squirrels, they can be pretty sneaky! At one house where we rented, the toilet stopped flushing. The plumber climbed up on the roof and discovered, squirrels had plugged the air-vent with acorns! LOL

That was so unlike us to forget something like that, but thanks. It worked out well in the end. I will soon have more cherry tomatoes than we can eat. Have three cherry tomato plants and two full size tomatoes. My friends and family will get many gifts this year unless I kill them all.
