JJ's day lilies have bloomed and gone. Mine are just beginning this week.
I brought these particular plants with me when I moved to Florence, Ks. Little did I know that they would be all over the back part of my property.
Some people call these ditch lilies because you find them all over rural America, growing in ditches and other undisturbed places.
From reading various foraging sites I have learned that this is an edible plant. I will let you know if I try it.
This image was taken yesterday. It is my bright good Saturday morning to you.

There are lots of plants that are edible that people pass up. I know the day lily flowers are edible, but I've never tried them. I have eaten purslane, garlic mustard, dandelion leaves, red clover, rose petals, Johnny-JumpUp petals...
Your lilies look wrinkly...

Yes, these lilies look like they have some texture, that is why I thought they might be a fancy variety. At a park recently I saw lots of the ones like @MarshaMusselman posted. All shades of yellow to orange to almost brown and they are smoother than mine.

I have never lived in a super dry climate. It would be rough. Maybe you should grow prickly pear and eat the fruits?

@rebelann Use kitchen tongs to pick them up with. Sear the spines off over the fire, then smooth sailing.

I have not tried them, yet. I am pretty opposed to cooking in the summer time and that is when they bloom.

I moved these, not knowing that I would also have an abundance growing wild.

@wolfgirl569 Gorgeous. In early spring I have a tall variety of phlox every where and then at times there is some naturalized white ageratum. Flowers everywhere and no work on my part.

@GardenGerty I am thinking of moving some of mine to the side of the pond. At least it will be pretty to see at times.

My day lilies came last month but are still blooming for me in Michigan. My tiger lilies just began fairly recently. Yours look like a variation of both.
Here is my day lily and tiger Lily taken the end of June I think.

I do not see anything I would have called a tiger lily. I have some kind of lily that is almost ready to bloom that I think might be a tiger lily, or what my grandma called a tiger lily. I see what I call a Stella d'Oro daylily in your picture and lots of hybrid day lilies of different colors. They are lovely. Nice thing, plants do not care what we call them and so many of them bloom with minimal care.

@MarshaMusselman ; The tiger lily I know grows more like an Asiatic lily with one straight stem. Flowers have spots. I always thought it should be called a "leopard lily"

They can certainly brighten a day without too much extra care.

@GardenGerty I love flowers that are not too demanding, this is why I let the Four o' Clock run, they auto seed, they need no care, they are of many different colors.

I am in a foraging group on facebook. It makes for interesting reading. If I had to I guess I could be a vegetarian and live off the land.

We had ditch lilies on both sides of the road, while growing up. They are beautiful flowers! What a lovely photo, Heather:)

I do not know if all lily flowers are edible, but I did read that these are. I have heard of eating squash or pumpkin flowers. I think they are beautiful.

It seems that the season varies. I love the pop of color and I have seen hummers and others stop by for refreshment.
