I told y'all that I was playing the multi-state lotteries while I was traveling on business. All said, I bought a total of 10 tickets (12 if you count the two MegaMillions tickets I bought).
Most were for the Powerball.
I played in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Now, drumroll please...
How much did I win?
$0. 
Oh well. Win some, lose some, as they say. The next drawing for the MegaMillions is Tuesday worth $104 million and the Powerball will draw Wednesday for $137 million.
I'll still be playing.

I haven't won a single dollar from playing the lottery in the last 20 years. But then again, I haven't played the lottery in the last 20 years. Yet, somehow, I keep hoping I will win.

@porwest I do play the lottery, but not frequently. Probably 3-4 times a year. But I am smart that instead of putting down $1 or $2 every week on lottery tickets, I put the money into my investment accounts. But I do agree with you that putting down $2 for a shot at hundreds of millions is enticing.

Look, the odds are terrible. I get it. I really do. But even being a smart, frugal, and very money conscious person, I have to admit...
It would only be a fool who not lay down $2 for a shot at hundreds of millions. NOT that I am calling you a fool, of course. But I do think most people play never expecting to win, and yet, someone always does.
I always think of the guy in front of me in line who decides not to play. He buys a bag of chips and thinks, "These fools who waste $2 on this." Meanwhile I step up after him and THAT'S the winning ticket. Had he played, the numbers would have been his, but he walked away from it.
In the end, who's smarter? The guy who skipped the winning ticket, or the one behind him who got it instead?
