Deep breaths

I am practicing taking deep breaths right now. Supper is made and eaten. Its a good time to be grateful that my Siamese Beau Teak made it through this past weekend. Beau kitty has chronic colds. I could take him to the Doc every couple months. This time around his cold developed and developed. Gunky nose and gunky eyes and horrid breathing. I managed to get water and slurpy canned food into him, a couple of teaspoons anyway. This morning he was having none of that. I called the Doc. Pleaded for antibiotics. Due to the Pandemic all Vets are overrun with patients. She told me to come get a bottle of meds. I took Rufus with me on our ride into town. Got home to find that hubby had the itch to go out onto the deck for some smoky 'fresh' air. Yup. Beau skipped out too. I've walked the property looking and calling. Thinking the worst and knowing if Beau was lying in weeds I'd never find him. Just before supper I put Rufus on the long leash- our driveway gate is open tonight- and we walked out together. I turned back toward the house. Rufus yanked on the leash. Not a usual yank. I turned to tell him to quit and there was Beau- walking as fast as he could from down the driveway toward the yucky neighbors. I told Rufus GOOD boy!! I gathered up Beau and once we got into the house, hubby and I washed his drooly face and I got out a syringe of liquid antibiotics. I put him in the kitty carrier and then into the smallest bathroom. He is in there now, taking in steam from the shower. At least now he has a chance to get better. Before bed I will do my best to get another dose of meds in him. More deep breaths for the both of us.

Oh you were so lucky to find him. You've done what you could. Meds are in him. The steam will help. He is safe. You'll keep up with meds and give him every chance to recover. You can rest a bit now.

@Vikingswest1 Thank you. I've given Beau his second dose of meds. I plan to keep him in the carrier until morning. After I give him his morning meds I will let him out into the house.

@Vikingswest1 Thank you for such a loving answer. My years of living with dogs paid off today. I learned today that Rufus is more than just a goof ball.

@JudyEv Beau must be better today cause he has tried to get outside twice. He moves better but he still is not eating, I think cause of his congestion. He wants to eat than doesn't.

@sallypup Poor Beau. You have to feel sorry for pets when they're not well.

If the air is smokey is that contributing to his congestion and stuff? I am glad you and Rufus found him.

@GardenGerty The Vet helper mentioned the smoky air a couple of times. I think you are right about the smoke bugging cats and people. I don't let Fred cat outside too much right now cause he has asthma.

I am so glad you found him. I used to have a kitty who had a chronic upper respiratory thing. He was in a shelter as a kitten, and I think he caught it there. He seemed healthy most of the time, but he would get like your kitty sometimes and have trouble breathing, and once was refusing to eat. Baby food did the trick with that.. I did the same thing with shower steam.

@snowy22315 Baby food is a good idea. I've been giving Beau nutritional yeast cause it gives extra vitamins and appears to perk up the appetite.
