Somewhat difficult day

I continue having cold or allergy symptoms, so I am not at my absolute best. That is not the difficult part of my day though. My co worker relieved me for lunch. She took our student outside for recess and he had a seizure. Our principal helped keep him safe on the floor of the nurse's office. 911 and his parents were called. Last year he had a really bad one and was in the hospital a few days. Last month he had Covid. Today he had seemed especially tired. I think they had been out to an older brother's football game last night. This seizure was controlled at the local hospital. I have heard he got to go home already, and that is a good thing. So it has been a kind of off day.

I hope he is doing much better now. My son used to have Grande Mal seizures but they are controlled with medication now... Sometimes it took days before he was able to do anything after having one and sometimes he was back up and going again a few minutes after having a seizure...

I would not call this a grand mal, but he has so many other problems. He was born with hydroencephalis, so has a shunt. Just talking among ourselves we do not know if it is a lingering outcome of having covid or if he is perhaps outgrowing the dose of medicine he is on and needing more.

You certainly had an off day. Hope you feel better and glad to hear your student is back home. One of my students had frequent seizures, too. We had a team in place for him. The ambulance turned off its siren before it pulled up to the school, so the other students wouldn’t get frightened. They all had to remain in their rooms, too. I wonder how that poor kid is doing now,

Sometimes you would really like to know about the former students. Yes, the ambulance was quiet pulling into the school. The kids were not kept in their rooms, as some were on the playground, etc.Atl this point the seizures are rare but I have worked with kids who had frequent ones.

@GardenGerty That’s all good! The kid I knew wasn’t in special education. He was so adorable, but missed so much school due his frequent seizures.

@DianneN I knew an adult once that ended up getting some brain surgery because they could not get meds regulated to stop the seizures. To celebrate 20 years seizure free she walked coast to coast, taking pictures, etc. She would then do presentations to civic organizations. Actually I just found her online. I may post an article.

I am sorry for the student, how does he feel today? Seizure are scary if you do not know how to handle the patient.

I have allergy rhinitis and essential oils helped me a lot in keeping me away from my attacks.

That is what we do not know. They said his symptoms of covid were not extreme. He also could be growing and have outgrown his maintenance medicine.
